5 Professional PowerPoint Secrets

HOW TO BECOME AN ANIMATOR :

If you've spent much time building a PowerPoint presentation, then you know how challenging it can be to create an effective presentation. Here are five "insider" secrets from professional PowerPoint designers to help you engage and hold your audience's attention.

1. Consistency means Professional Polish. You want the audience to focus on the content, not the delivery. The best way to do this is to create a transparent approach by being as consistent as possible in your use of all elements of your presentation, from fonts, colors, layouts, animations, and slide transitions. For example, if you animate a bulleted list by using a fade effect, it will work much better if you stick with that, instead of deciding to animate the next list with a 'curve up' animation.

2. Variety is the spice of life, and your presentation. This may seem like a direct contradiction to secret #1, but it's not. You need to find a way to visually cue your audience that a new slide has appeared, and therefore, it must look different from the previous slide in some obvious way. Also, if every slide looks too similar, your audience will quickly become bored. It's important to use variations within your framework of consistency. For example, let's say you decide to always have the slide headline be white text inside a blue rectangle and automatically animate into each new slide. You might decide to animate the headline bar from the left on slide 1, and then from the right on slide 2, and to keep alternating. This presentation will have a clear style, but with noticeable variations.

3. Use Both Images and Text. Some people are more verbally (text) oriented, and some are more visually (image) oriented. If your presentation uses both images and text, it will communicate to more people than just using one or the other. It can be time-consuming to find relevant images, so allow adequate time for this in making your PowerPoint presentation.

4. Be Bold. PowerPoint slides tend to function best when they are straightforward and bold. Follow the famous advice to billboard designers: "Make something that can be read from a car zooming by at 60 miles an hour, at night, during a rain storm, and through a dirty windshield." Make everything on your slide nice and large. Text should not be smaller than 16 points. If the presentation is supporting a live speaker, then keep the text as brief as possible, so that you can make it large and clear. For example, instead of writing "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog," the PowerPoint Zen way is to say, "Fox jumped over dog." The speaker can then take their proper place at the center of the audience's attention by informing them the dog was brown, and the fox was lazy. If you are creating a stand-alone presentation, then it is necessary to put more information into your slides. For help with that, see the next secret.

5. Space out. A common question is, "I have 25 minutes to present, and so how many slides should I make?" There is no hard and fast rule, but it is helpful to keep the following in mind. It's much more interesting and engaging for the audience to have the information spaced out over more slides that advance quickly, than a few slides that sit on the screen for seemingly an eternity that are crammed with so much content they are hard to read. Remember that most people watch TV and movies, which change images every few seconds. If your slides change frequently, then you will be less likely to hear snores from the back row.

A question that many laptop owners will eventually ask when their laptops are starting to annoy them. The thing is, to increase laptop speed is the same as you do a computer, provided that they have the same operating system, which in this case is Windows. But being a little less powerful than a computer, a laptop can slow down in almost all application if not maintained properly. In this article, I will show you an easy visual tweak as one of the ways on how to increase laptop speed.

The newer version of Windows provides an additional visual feature that is stunning to look at. With the entire dropdown menu animation, it is quite impressive. But with a laptop, this extra features, though barely noticeable, can become a hassle and will slow down you laptop.

This feature will used up your laptop's resources and will make the system take longer to load, which nobody wants. You need to remove this feature and then optimize your laptop's resources on the performance and not the visual feature.

This is one of the ways on how to increase laptop speed, to do this; you can access the Performance Options and tweak the options there to suit your laptop. To access the Performance Option, click start, then go to Control Panels, and then look for the System icon, and click it. Alternatively, you could just right click the My Computer and select properties.

At the system properties, select the advanced tab and then click settings in the performance area. If you do it correctly, the Performance Dialog window will appear.

There, you can tweak the option that suit your laptop, and reduce any visual luxury that has been making your laptop running slow.

How Are Video Games Made - The Process From Start to Finish

It's time to answer that oh-so important question that's been burning in the back of your mind: "how are video games made?" Here is a very basic run down of how video games are made.

1. Core Team

A group of people whom come up with the general concept of the game. Numerous meetings will occur in which the group brainstorms about the game; figuring out not only how it will look, but also how it will work. The core team is in charge of the production schedule as well, which describes the tasks each person is assigned and when they most do them.

2. Game Breakdown

Every detail, task, job, and deadline about the video game is broken down into components and then added to a bulletin board. This board acts as the nerve center throughout the games production.

3. Artistic Concept

Artists sketch out the games characters & backgrounds with a very basic level of detail. These sketches are what the graphics artists use to create the characters and backgrounds in 3D on the computer.

4. Development Team

This team uses the latest in computer animation technology to bring life to all of the game's elements; adding colors, textures, shading, and even movement. This team uses the 3d characters and backgrounds created by the graphics team.

5. Programming & Engineering

This is the bread & butter of the game development stage; because without this part, there would be no game. Suffice it to say, the programmers & engineers make the game work. Their coding is what holds the game together and allows the player to actually play the game.

6. Testing

This is the final and most crucial part of the development process. This phase is to see if everything is working properly and as it should be. Testers will check for bugs and glitches and try to find potential problems.

Culture Must Conquer the Globe (Globalism)

Definition:

Culture, the sum of attitudes, customs, and beliefs that distinguishes one group of people from another, transmitted, through language, material objects, ritual, institutions, and art, from one generation to the next.

Also, culture also refers to refined music, art, and literature; one who is well versed in these subjects is considered "cultured."

Also culture is language use, tool making, and conscious regulation of sex, essential features that distinguish humans from other animals.

The Article

Culture. - How important is culture and learning another language, and why? If we are to protect the world and its resources, and other essentials, we must first decide at what point we will oppose those who wish to stop the movement of world cultures, in what is called Globalism.

The quality in a person or society comes to blossom out of the concern for what is regarded as excellence in the arts, letters, manners, scholarly pursuits, it shows to the world at large, a particular form or stage of that civilization, its past, present, its potential future. Also it shows its developmental behaviors and beliefs-the world is turning towards globalization, and everyone is watching everyone.

Already the world has moved boldly into this interconnecting web that is circling the globe (the internet and global interests pushing it along), and this new global-culture has penetrated politically, electronically, into every cultural aspect of mankind (an example, you have old culture using new cultural cellphones in the Andes).

The sum total of our ways of living among one another, remains in cultural groups of human beings worldwide, this new culture will be transmitted to the next generation. This in itself is reason enough, most essential that we all look at other cultures, their customs, ways of life, traditions, language; learn at least in part, another's culture, so we can communicate with them better.

The world is in need of oil, water, food, and other essentials, without attacking one another, forcing one another to use their defenses to get what they need-for without global reasoning, another country will try anything short of war to get what they want (and sometimes war), again this demands we know their culture, their language.

This new culture that is forming around old cultures, interconnecting with the whole world, like the internet, carries new patterns, traits, and products, and will be and is, considered an expression of this period, for the world population, this is the culture of Globalism...and because of this new world order, the world is becoming increasingly perilous, and knowing other languages is a must for the 21st Century student and leader, in any country, to lead his or her country: call it enlightenment, resulting from training or education.

The only way to move forward in this new global-connecting world is to conquer it, make a peace with it, and have a true working agreement with it. Now is the time to prepare in order to be able to take advantage of the confused situation that might arise in it, we are in essence, all successfully invading one another's country, and the better we are prepared culturally, the better we stand among the many. In Peru, today-the youth will have to make hard and heavy decisions that are necessary for her to move forward, that her people will count on. The quest to the Peruvian reader reading this article is: "Can she count on any of you?"

12 Creative Photography Ideas

HOW TO BECOME AN ANIMATOR :

Here are 12 ideas to get your creative juices flowing and increase your skills and value as a photographer.

TIP 1 - Time Lapse photos. I showed my niece how to do this with clay figures and stitch the resulting frames together into a video file, and she was busy for days. If you control the exposure consistently to keep the images consistent with one another, you can do some really fun stop-motion animation. Or, you can set up your camera to capture other slow motion effects such as flowers opening and seedlings growing.

TIP 2 - Night Lights. Things look very different at night. Shooting city scenes with available light creates some interesting images. And shooting outdoor images under moonlight or with "light painting", where you open up the camera shutter for an extended exposure, and "paint" your targets with colored or plain light, can create some truly bizarre images.

TIP 3 - Astrophotography. Hook that SLR up to a telescope, and you are ready to peer into the depths of space and time. You'll need some adapters, and ability to compensate for the earth's rotation for really long shots. Start with the moon and move on from there.

TIP 4 - Macro photography. From flowers to coins to stamps, you can polish your skills at close-up photography and capture some really detailed images. Often a macro lens or close-up attachment will help. See my tips on Flower Photography to get more information.

TIP 5 - Micro photography. If you can interface that camera with a microscope, you can get some really crazy images. Or, stack up a bunch of close-up magnification and try your hand at turning salt crystals into surreal imagery.

TIP 6 - Insurance Photos. OK, maybe a bit boring, but you and your friends and relatives will thank you. Take a couple hours and touch and photograph everything of value, with a full shot or two if each item of value, accompanied by a shot of the identifying marks - manufacturer model or serial number. Then burn a CD or DVD and store it off site. If you have a fire or other loss, this could save the owner thousands of dollars.

TIP 7 - Family Recipe book. Anytime those family favorites are prepared, copy down the recipe and take some photos of the food. You can produce a printed or electronic cookbook of family favorites that everyone will love.

TIP 8 - Stock Photography. This is a very busy market niche, but the cost of entry is low. Specialize in things you love, and you may be able to generate some income from your stock images. Search for stock photography sites, and make sure you understand your rights before you post images.

TIP 9 - Special Effects. Maybe you want to specialize in high-speed images of athletes, or surrealistic collages. Try your hand at using your editing skills to put someone in a soda bottle or floating on a candy lifesaver. Often more artistic than photographic, it will test your composition, lighting and editing skills to come up with believable artificial realities.

TIP 10 - Still Life. Ahh, the bowl of fruit. Sometimes a simple object or collection, properly lit, shot and edited, is a thing of beauty. It's a great way to study light. Start with an egg on a light background, a lamp and a window and see how you can learn about lighting and composition.

TIP 11 - Computer Control. Many cameras have a USB interface and remote control software. You can actually control the camera from the computer. See if you can get it to work to your liking, and maybe even program some time lapse or exposure bracketing experiments.

TIP 12 - Be Like Andy. Take some images of everyday items and try to create those neat colored backgrounds like Andy Warhol used to make. Create a 4-up print of the same image and change the colors of each quadrant to make an interesting square print.

In Defense of The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

Introduction

Psychology, the scientific discipline of the study of human and animal behavior, is a young science. Prior to the late 19th century, the study of "mind" was a discipline practiced as a philosophical or spiritual endeavor. Because Psychology is a new science, we should expect a continuing evolution of psychological theory as well as tweaking and revision of existing theories.

A Brief History of Psychology

In 1879, German physiologist Wilhelm Wundt used the laboratory setting to perform psychological experiments. He is known as "father of experimental psychology", also then referred to as Structuralism.

William James, American scientist, psychologist, and philosopher introduced the concept that the practice of psychological theory should have practicality. That is, use psychological theory to bring tangible benefits to people.

Sigmund Freud introduced the psychoanalytic techniques to uncover first causes of behavior. One of Freud's proteges was psychiatrist Carl Young who later broke with Freud and developed his own theory of analytical psychology. Carl Jung was first to declare a person's psychological makeup religious by nature. He defined the process of a person becoming whole as "Individuation". Individuation is the process of balancing opposites, i.e., unconscious with the conscious, but still keeping a measure of separateness. In fact, the core concept of analytic psychology is Individuation.

Jung then posited the reality of two distinct groupings of psychological functions: The Judging "rational" functions- feeling and thinking, and the perceiving "irrational" functions- intuition and sensing.

Jung then stated that the dichotomies are projected in either an extroverted or introverted fashion.

An analogy of these dichotomies is seen in the expression of right handedness or left handedness. One either develops it early in life or is born with it

The Myers-Briggs Type Indicator

From Jung's original concepts, Myers and Briggs developed their own theory of psychological type, on which the MBTI is based.

They worked on the MBTI during WWII as a tool to help women in wartime industry zero in on the quality of work they would be most satisfied with. The first test evolved into the MBTI in 1962.

Isabel Briggs Myers mother Katherine Briggs started investigating personality traits in 1917. She saw personality differences between members of the same family. She identified the connection between Jung's theory and her own. Katherine Briggs four personality types were then matched to Is, EPs, ETJs and EFJs.

Daughter Isabel advanced her mother's work, which she entirely took over when her mother retired.

The MBTI has been used for over 50 years as a tool to bring tangible benefits to people. It is a measure of personality preferences. That is, how the relative strength of a person's personality preferences is used to psychologically navigate in the world.

One enduring use of the MBTI is in the field of career counseling. The MBTI Career Report helps people zero in on fields of work that others with their same personality type have reported a high degree of satisfaction with. As such, The MBTI Career Report is a statistically valid testing instrument.

It can be used as a starting point for career search and one of many tools career and guidance counselors, life coaches and corporate managers can use to help others achieve a higher degree of job satisfaction.

Criticism of the MBTI is centered on two points of contention. (1) Over the decades, the MBTI has sometimes been used in inappropriate ways such as a psycho-therapeutic tool or as a forced testing instrument within the corporate environment. (2) Conflicting studies question the validity of the MBTI as a predictor of job satisfaction.

The MBTI should not be used as an end all and be all in gaining understanding of personality preferences. The same can be said of any testing instrument in the field of psychology. Human behavior is a manifestation of complex web of biological imperatives, psychological drives, and intangible yet identifiable motivations based on values, ethics, morality, and spirituality. Use of the MBTI needs to be kept in perspective and applied within the framework of such complexity.

For many, job satisfaction can be an ideal, a goal that is never fully reached. Many factors can affect career satisfaction over and above working a job that is complementary to a person's personality preferences, including the relative health of a person's interpersonal relationships and the age of the person. A job that's appealing to a 20 year old may prove less fulfilling to a 40 year old.

Conclusion

Use of the Myers-Briggs Type Indicator as a career satisfaction predictor is one of a number of tools a person can use in gaining perspective on what career may prove fulfilling. Likewise, the MBTI is a useful and interesting tool to help gain insight into how one psychologically navigates through life. Using the MBTI ideally should be combined with other tools and guidance to help a person identify fulfilling careers.

Well, I'm talking about greenhouses, of course. What is a greenhouse? Lean-to Greenhouse

One of the favorite types of greenhouse is the lean-to, because it's relatively easy and affordable to build and maintain. A lean-to is constructed against one wall of an existing building. That saves money in the construction, and possibly the heating.

How can a lean-to greenhouse save heating costs? Before we start let me just declare my view which is that a mixed breed dog can be a wonderful addition to a family. They typically cost much less than the purebreds, and they are usually unique and delightful dogs.

A mixed breed dog is what is commonly known as the mongrel, mutt, or sometimes and rather unkindly I have to say "the Heinz 57". The mutt is in fact a mixture of several dogs and qualifies when bred with more than 2 different breeds in it, otherwise they are called cross-breeds. If you are wondering whether your dog is a purebred you can work on the basis that unless the dog has registration papers, it is safe to assume that the dog is a mixed breed. Even mixed breeds can closely resemble a purebred.

So, it follows that mixed-breed dogs vary enormously in size, shape, color and personality, making them almost impossible to classify physically. Historically, all purebred dogs have been selected from a mixed-breed population way back in time!

As we have just said mixed-breed dogs can be any size, weight, or colour, but some colors are more common than others. No matter what their parents' colors were, mixed breeds are often a light-to-medium brown or black, frequently with a white chest and other white markings. Mixed-breed dogs, however, don't classify except according to height; there is tremendous variation in physical traits such as coat, skeletal structure, gait, ear set, eye shape and color, and so on. When conformation standards are applied to mixed-breed dogs, such as in events run by the MBDCA, the standards are usually general traits of health, soundness of nature, symmetry, and personality.

Anyone who appreciates how genetics works will understand that mixed-breed dogs are more genetically diverse than their pure bred cousins, due to the more haphazard nature of their parents' mating. Happily also, as would have been predicted by Darwin, he offspring of such matings are less likely to express certain genetic disorders because there is a decreased chance that both parents carry the same detrimental recessive alleles.

Purebred dogs are those dogs which are the recognized breeds of the national kennel clubs (for example the American Kennel Club, and the UK Kennel Club), and are of course, more predictable as their personality traits and health issues are more predictable and for certain breeds which have developed a bad reputation are well known.

Purebreds may be less hardy than mixed breeds, both physically and often emotionally, as a result of inbreeding. Inbreeding has become a big issue especially in the UK where Crufts will not be screened by the BBC this year due to a feeling that not all that absolutely could be done to preserve and enhance pure bred genes is being done by the UK Kennel Club.

Purebred dogs will also have to some extent a predictable temperament, if you are looking for a friendly dog with lots of energy then choose a breed which is known for this character trait. That had to be by far the best way to buy a puppy which will result in an adult dog with those traits.

On the downside when you compare the mutt with the purebred recognized breed, the purebred dog is generally more prone to disease and ailments than the mixed breed. This is mainly as we have earlier indicated down to genetics in the breeding. Mixed dog breeding however results in a good deal of the overpopulation among dogs, and most of the dogs you will see looking for owners in any dog rescue centre will normally be the mixed breeds. Each year, millions of homeless pets are killed, and by your choosing to re-home a mixed breed dog you would be taking an animal which is much less likely to gain a new home than a purebred in the next dog pen.

Mind improvement is one of man's quests ever since he started to think above all other animals.

Aristotle thought politics was man's final frontier towards improving his mind, while Einstein leaned more towards the scientific.

In every era, great men find ways to help improve man's mind for the greater good of many, but within each of us there's a thirst of improving by ourselves.

Here's a few tips on how to do just that:

MIND IMPROVEMENT THROUGH A POSITIVE OUTLOOK

You can never underestimate the power of a positive outlook. You can still be all philosophical and existential if that' just how you are, but at the very least, you should learn to see the side of things that you can laugh at or smile about despite harrowing conditions and situations. You never know when smiling at misfortune can help keep you sane.

Maintaining a positive outlook ranges from simply not succumbing to panic to seeing the glass half full all the time. Of course, this doesn't mean you should ignore the ugly reality of things, but instead you should appreciate the silver lining more than the dark clouds. Of course, you don't become a jerk that laughs at other people's misfortune much less your own, you just know the value of positivism and sharing it with others.

MIND IMPROVEMENT THROUGH MENTAL CLARITY AND CONCENTRATION

Focus is the main goal of improving your mental clarity and concentration. Most endeavors are lost by losing focus. But it's hard to keep your attention to one thing long enough in such a fast paced and dynamically changing environment like in this modern age isn't it?

So how do you do it?

When you're busy and running on a hectic schedule, go out of your way to stop and take a nice few breaths of pure relaxation. Relaxing immensely helps in focus and overall mind improvement.

Have you ever seen any old wise Oriental hermits on TV or the Web that don't take the time to meditate? Relaxing such that your mind becomes at peace with itself has a plethora of benefits aside from improving mental clarity and focus, but for a few breaths you can only expect so much. Still, it really helps and is a good start.

MIND IMPROVEMENT THROUGH BEING OPEN TO NEW THINGS

Experience is the best and most effective teacher, and a mind that's not open to new things-even things that might at first be utterly against one's beliefs, won't experience much. A closed mind won't learn much of anything, so open your mind. Be open to new things. Know the danger of doctrine and folly of infallible belief.

This is not to say that you should easily be swayed. On the contrary, if you really have faith in your belief framework (be it your religion, your psychological outlook, your philosophy in life), being open to things that could even be completely the opposite of what you believe can only serve to enrich them. Only after knowing the opposite of what you put your faith in will you know its true value. And in so doing, you are undergoing great mind improvement.

Several studies indicate, that you have only 10 to 30 seconds to capture visitor's attention. If your site is slow to open, your customer will likely lose patience and close the window. And that means bye.. bye..to your site! Worse..no sale.

Solution: Avoid having too much animation in your site. Compress the image files and host your site with a good hosting company.

2. Website Design

Remember you have only 10 to 30 seconds to capture visitor's attention. So website design is very important. Most people judge something on their first look! When visitors come to your site, they will see the reflection of YOU. Be certain they will like what they see.

Your professional website design will not sell, if the customers don't trust you! So, provide legitimate contact information online. Having your own domain name is also very vital for your credibility. It will make you look more professional. Choose a domain name that easy to remember and suitable for your business.

Putting testimonials from happy customers is one of the best way to improve your credibility. When the customer can read what other people say about your service, they will be more inclined to trust you!

Homework, Children and Parents - Strategies to Help, Not Hassle

'Have you done your homework?'

'In a minute. I'll do it in a minute.'

How many times and in how many homes does the refrain ring out each night?

Getting a child to do homework - without nagging - is one of the main problems of parents with school aged children For many parents, it is a nightly balancing act between helping and supporting their child - and standing over them.

How Can Parents Help?

* Set a regular time for homework. This immediately eliminates the most common homework hassle. You and your child might decide it will be after school and a snack, or before school when they are fresher. Once that homework time comes around, cling to your cannons and send them off to do it.

* Help them stick to it. A few subtle reminders such as 'Do you want help with the African project now?' are better than the more blunt 'Time for homework now.'

* Provide an area for study. Some kids can concentrate in the busy family room, - just don't turn on the TV or all eyes go to the flickering screen and the brain quickly follows. Other kids like the seclusion of their bedroom, usually with the radio blaring. (Take solace from recent findings - IQ is raised higher by listening to rock music than to classical music.)

* Brainstorm Ideas. Make it a family game. If the project is to design a toy with wheels, it could be a billy cart. Or, with a few zany ideas from you it could be a Ferris wheel, a merry go round, a wheel of fortune...

* Help them locate information. Show them the library is not the only place with information about Cairns. The travel agent, Uncle Pete who lives there, the neighbours who holidayed there are all great sources of facts and fun.

* Discuss problems. Two brains are always better than one. Four or five brains all firing at once are fantastic.

* Teach time management skills. Show children how to break up a major assignment into smaller chunks of work. Make a list of things to be done, suggest deadlines and always allow extra for the trivial finishing touches that take up so much time.

* Never actually do the work yourself. It might be difficult to see the headings crooked and the lines smudged, but grit your teeth and let it go. Homework is about learning, not perfection.

And if They Still Don't Do Homework?

'That's the school's problem, not the family's,' says Rhonda Fitch, a psychologist with many years dealing with school children and their families.

'Fights about homework can be very detrimental to family relationships. If the homework isn't done, let the children go to school without it - and experience the logical consequences of their actions.'

For long term problems, she suggests talking with the teacher. Perhaps the homework is too hard. Or too easy. Perhaps not enough feedback is given.

Frequent, friendly talks can provide valuable information about how the child is working and forge strong links between children, parents and teachers. But in the end 'it is more important to be a parent to your child than a substitute teacher,' says Rhonda.

Am I Doing it Right?

Research has shown that one of the most important things to come out of homework is the quality of time parents and children spend together - not the actual work.

You were your child's first teacher. They learnt to walk and talk didn't they? They learnt to negotiate and share, they understand the importance of helping others, of telling the truth, of loving and giving. After that, helping them with long division should be a cinch.

Besides, you don't have to know all the answers. If you're a bit hazy about why the Wall of China was built, there's nothing wrong with saying 'I'm not sure. Let's see if we can find out.'

That way homework becomes a journey of discovery, a search for knowledge together.

SIDEBAR: The School's Role

It is up to individual schools to set homework guidelines and amounts. The majority of parental complaints to schools are about not enough homework set. However recent research casts doubts on the assumption that homework increases a child's learning performance.

Schools' guidelines should include the following:-

* If children are to value homework, it must be valuable. 'Busy work' will soon be recognised - and just as soon not completed.

* Homework should be linked to classroom activities. If 'Animals' are studied in class, a grammar sheet on England is not particularly appropriate.

* Homework should always be assessed and meaningful feedback given. Written comments tell a child more than a mark out of ten.

* There should be a reasonable time period set for completion. Homework due in 'tomorrow' does not allow for other events in a child's life.

* Schools should remember that learning takes place in many different environments. After school activities such as chess, tennis, woodwork and music lessons, all extend children in a broad and healthy way.

The Beauty of Water

Our most precious resource on earth is the life flowing water that makes up almost 80% of our body. Water is our common bond with all living beings and should be given our greatest reverence.

Throughout the ages water has symbolized the very essence of life. We have looked upon water as a means to cleanliness and mercy; using it in holy rituals, rights of passage and rebirth. From our earliest accounts of civilization, we have built up settlements around large sources of water because water is the life source of the community. However, with the introduction of modern technology in our society, and a seemingly unending supply of free flowing water from the taps throughout our homes and businesses, we seem to have we lost our respect for this most precious treasure and see it as being something owed to us more then the wonderful gift that it is.

The true value of water is often not fully realized until it has been removed from our lives. Therefore it is important for us to find new ways to re-connect ourselves with this vital treasure giving it the respect that it so richly deserves.

We can start by observing how we consume our water. - Think about how much you use, and how much you waste. Keep in mind that there are people in this world that live on as little as three liters of water per day or less. Compare that to the amount you use on a daily basis. By consciously becoming aware of how we consume, we can become better and more educated consumers.

We need to drink more water. - While conserving water is important, you do need to drink it to survive and drink plenty of it. Your body can handle going without food for several weeks; however you can not go without water for more than a few days. Keeping yourself well hydrated helps your body to eliminate wastes and toxins from your system, it also helps convert food into energy, moistens oxygen for breathing and promotes healthy skin. If your energy starts to falter towards the end of an afternoon, drinking a full glass of water will help to restore it quickly.

Watch what you put down your drains. - While the most obvious things you don't want to put down your drain are toxic chemicals, many people do not realize that fragrances may also pose a threat to our water supply. More than 80 percent of all fragrances made today come from synthetic compounds derived from petrochemicals. Fragrances can be found in everything from shampoos and shower gels to things like dish soaps and laundry detergents. While most of the materials that make up the fragrances may be removed by wastewater treatments; up to 10 percent are possibly non-biodegradable and continue on in our waters. As an example, a recent study has shown that synthetic musk's have been showing up in animal tissues, blood plasma and even breast milk.

Take a bath. - While showers are typically preferred over baths as baths tend to use up more water; bathing can be a very therapeutic experience and a wonderful way to appreciate one of the many benefits of water. Bathing is especially healing if you add essential oils and sea salts, for example those from the Dead Sea that are rich in minerals. Hydrotherapy, which is basically "therapy through water", is often recommended for aliments like muscle pain, arthritis, insomnia, migraines, psoriasis, and other skin disorders. From biblical healings in the Dead Sea to Roman bath houses, therapy through water has long been a respected healing practice. The simple sensation of being immersed in water alone can be a very renewing and uplifting experience that connects you to the life force of the water that flows within.

Find natural sources of water. - One of the best ways to re-connect ourselves with water is to find a natural source. Weather you live near the ocean, in the mountains, on the plains or in the desert, where there is life, you will find water. Observe everything that surrounds this natural source, from plant life to critters, or to fish and birds. See what a wonderful gift of nourishment this liquid treasure is to the life that depends on its very existence.

By becoming more aware of how we use water, and allowing ourselves to get a little closer to its natural source, we can gain a new appreciation and respect for how vital this precious element it is to our very existence. We will also come to understand that even the slightest changes that we make in our life can protect this gift for others.

Adrenal Fatigue Updated

HOW TO BECOME AN ANIMATOR :

Searching For Answers

For years I have been searching for answers to my health concerns and those of many others who have crossed my path. My journey involved years of not feeling well, an illness that surfaced, over three years to realize the emotional core of all illness including mine, and over a decade of trial and error regimens that eventually led me to uncover some amazing facts. I always felt there had to be one core issue that contributed to, if not caused, the decline of health and the surfacing of disease. Many doctors and health practitioners had ideas and protocol, much of which I followed, but it never produced vibrant health for me. I felt I was a yoyo - up and down - going nowhere. So I continued my search.

Providentially, I came upon information that resonated with my thoughts - that a single core imbalance was a significant factor in many illnesses. My continued research uncovered the significance of the endocrine system and how the glands within this system basically run the body. Many doctors addressed the sex hormones, blaming those hormones, which are often involved, as the culprit for my significant imbalances and symptoms. Others said, "Well, you're getting older so you have to expect some of these things." Others said it was simply stress. I didn't buy their answers so looked further.

Through my studies I had realized the thyroid imbalance prevalent in many individuals as well as myself, so began working with this gland. Although taking a natural thyroid prescription did help somewhat with symptoms - cold hands and feet, fatigue, constipation, insomnia - it never really allowed me to feel great. So there had to be more, and as I devoured every article and book I could on hormones, I uncovered the significant role of the adrenal glands in the body. Then it hit me - this must be the missing piece of the puzzle for which I was seeking. And like a tire that goes flat on a car inhibits the entire vehicle from performing well, so would an imbalance with one gland affect the performance of the other glands within the endocrine system, and thus affect the entire body's performance.

Although I wrote an article before concerning the healing of the adrenals, I have a deep desire to uncover other aspects of this primary gland and its hormonal impact. Thus I keep discovering new information that can be beneficial for those suffering with adrenal fatigue. The first article lays the foundation for the information I am now sharing.

What Are The Hormones?

When I reference hormones that must be balanced, I am referring to these: T3 and T4 in the thyroid gland, Cortisol and DHEA in the adrenal glands, Progesterone, Estrogen and Testosterone in the sex glands, Melatonin that aids sleep, and Pregnenalone the King of all hormones, all of which are aided by other smaller but relevant steroid hormones. DHEA is the most abundant hormone in your body and is beneficial for your immune system, anti-aging and keeping muscles strong and flexible. Like all other hormones, they begin declining around age 40, sometimes even sooner. If your body is stressed, then they decline at a faster pace.

Although the decline of hormones is a natural process, our present day diet and lifestyle wreck havoc on our health and contribute immensely to the greater decline we see today. Changing your diet, exercising, and reframing beliefs and mental attitudes can go a long way into helping to create vibrant health. But why not restore some of the necessary hormones so life can be more enjoyable and fulfilling? Here again, it is important to do some research and use only products that nourish the body and give it high level energy so it can create vibrant health, not just supply it with a 'fix" to alleviate symptoms. Go for the cure of the core!

Traditional Medicine Versus Holistic Approaches

First understand this: Most medical professionals do not recognize the adrenals as part of the problem, yet it is the most common hormonal imbalance. Astonishing, isn't it? I believe that anyone who has an illness has an adrenal problem, and that without giving nutrient support to the adrenals, it is harder to heal the illness, if not impossible. In addition, although doctors perform traditional thyroid blood tests, these often do not show a thyroid imbalance unless it is severe. It requires a holistic health practitioner or doctor to perform an expanded thyroid panel to show other aspects of how the thyroid hormones function, which are not shown in a traditional test. This happened to me. My thyroid produced plenty of its hormones, so with the traditional test it appeared I was fine. I did this test several times with the same results over a period of five years. However, with continued symptoms that indicated thyroid dysfunction, I sought a holistic doctor and had the expanded test performed. I hadn't known of this expanded test until my research revealed it. The test report indicated that I did indeed produce adequate thyroid hormones, but I was not converting it into useable hormones within my body - an aha moment! So I began natural thyroid treatment.

However, that didn't turn out to be the complete answer, and after more research I altered my course to address the adrenals. An ASI test proved my intuition was correct - my adrenals were indeed fatigued. My cortisol was high in the late afternoon and evening when it should be lower, and was low in the morning when it should be the highest. My body was in a reverse action mode. So I turned my attention to the adrenals and began a diligent program of supplements and stress reduction to alleviate the issue with my adrenals. But it still wasn't enough. Then I got it! It is often necessary to work on all of the endocrine system at once, giving nutrients for the adrenals, thyroid and sex hormones altogether. Many times the adrenal depletion affects the thyroid and we refer to that as sub-clinical hypothyroidism, or under the main cause. Better results can often be achieved when addressing all the hormones at once.

The more I have studied this rather puzzling dilemma, the more I see how intricate the body is - how everything is connected and intertwined. So in addition to addressing the entire endocrine system, it is imperative to work on emotional issues, mental beliefs, and spiritual connections as well. We are so much more than our physical body, so balancing these other areas plays a significant role in healing. A person can take dozens of supplements for the adrenals and thyroid, but if their belief system includes mountains of daily stress, and that stress feeds into their heart so that they feel the stress, then a vicious cycle is created and healing the adrenals will be impossible.

Role Of Adrenals

Do you know the key role of the adrenals? It is threefold. Its first role is to maintain the fluid balance within the body. It is imperative to have enough moisture in the intestines for elimination as well as joint and connective tissue flexibility. Symptoms that often accompany adrenal fatigue are constipation, dry skin and hair, and both muscle pain and weakness. The second role the adrenals play is in helping to settle inflammation in the body when it is needed. Thus individuals with joint problems - arthritis, fibromyalgia, muscular dystrophy - most likely need to heal the adrenals in order to heal their other health concern. The third role of the adrenals is to provide sufficient energy to get through each day. This is why fatigue, lethargy, impaired concentration, and sleep issues are part of the adrenal fatigue picture.

Something I have discovered in recent months is the importance of detoxing the kidneys when healing the adrenals. Remember that the adrenals are located right above the kidneys, so it makes sense to cleanse the kidneys of stagnant debris that has accumulated there. Of course the intestines and liver will probably need cleansing at some point since they, along with the kidneys, are the filter organs in our body. But when the adrenals are drained and not functioning optimally, to detox heavily can plummet the adrenals into deeper fatigue. What I have learned is that the best course of action in the beginning, especially if you are a sensitive person as I am, is to sit in a FAR infrared sauna or begin juicing veggie juices in a juicer. Both of these programs allow for gentle detox so that the adrenals are not further impaired.

Symptom Review

Let's quickly review the symptoms of adrenal fatigue. They are often:

- Fatigue
- Insomnia
- Weight gain, especially around the waist and abdomen
- Constipation
- Mild depression
- Morning sluggishness
- Dry skin and hair
- Anxiety and nervousness
- Arthritis
- Low body temperature
- Reduced sex drive
- Numerous other symptoms

Funny thing is that most of these symptoms mimic the symptoms of low thyroid function, known as hypothyroidism, making it a little tricky to find the underlying cause for many professionals. But again, I reiterate how all hormones inter-relate and often must be addressed simultaneously.

Healing The Adrenals

Healing the adrenals can be a daunting task, or at least it may seem that way. Understand that healing the adrenals, or balancing any hormones, can take time; it is not a quick fix. After all, it took you some time to unbalance them, so you'll have to hang in there with some trial and error to rebalance them. Again I must stress the importance of working in all realms - the physical, mental, emotional and spiritual to experience a complete rebalancing of anything in your body. We are multidimensional beings who require work in every dimension. This means your lifestyle will probably need to change.

But what is necessary for healing the physical body? Often a vicious cycle is created with the adrenal situation. If the adrenals are tired they don't allow other systems in the body to work well, like digestion. If digestion is impaired, then constipation, lack of assimilation of nutrients, and weight gain can ensue. The weight gain can occur due to the lack of digestion which causes undigested food particles to enter the blood stream and deposit in undesirable places in the body. (those unwanted pounds!) Or, if digestion is not working efficiently, that very thing can weaken the adrenals and become a stressor for them. So you can see how easy it is to set up a vicious cycle that is hard to break. Digestive enzymes are in order as part of the adrenal restoration process.

Salt is vital for restoring adrenals to proper function. Now I'm not talking about table salt, which is simply sodium chloride, a chemical, which can cause high blood pressure among other things and offers nothing good for your body. You might think I'm referring to sea salt, but that isn't the case either. Sea salt, taken from our polluted oceans, is still processed and does not include the necessary nutrients. But Himalayan salt, sometimes referred to as pink salt, includes all 84 nutrients that your body needs every day. It is taken directly from the Himalayan salt mines and is the purest salt in the world. A teaspoon every day is recommended to help keep your fluid levels balanced and provide you with the nutrients and minerals your body needs. Some individuals crave salt when the adrenals are significantly depleted. For some, when their adrenals are very low functioning, taking ½ to 1 teaspoon of Himalayan salt in lukewarm water in the morning before eating anything can help raise their cortisol levels. Remember, cortisol needs to be at its highest level in the morning so you have energy throughout the day.

The B vitamins are an absolute if you wish to repair your adrenals. B's are anti-stress for one thing, and are required for all healing, digestion, energy and restoration anywhere in the body. The B vitamins are best ingested in a liquid form since digestion is impaired with adrenal fatigue. Also note that tablets seldom break down enough to be utilized by the body, and many capsules have fillers and binders that can actually inhibit absorption into the body. Make sure you include liquid B's in your daily healing protocol.

Sleep is a necessity for repair of the adrenals, and anything in the body for that matter, for during sleep the repair process takes place. So without sufficient sleep restoration is halted. Many individuals complain about fitful sleep or waking up throughout the night, leaving them tired and sluggish for the day. Five consecutive hours of sleep are what is required every night for adrenal repair, and if you are not able to do this, natural measures should be taken to help you sleep. A product called Seriphos from InnerPlexus can be helpful in lowering elevated evening cortisol levels as can liquid melatonin from PR Labs. Other relaxant herbal combinations may also be helpful. Some find benefit from 5HTP. The cycle of insomnia that is often created when hormones are out of balance can usually be eliminated once hormones become balanced, but using some aids such as mentioned above are certainly in order to help achieve sleep faster. Sleep is vital for repair.

One of the main factors in adrenal fatigue is stress, so changing your response to stressors is a must if healing is to occur. Reducing and eventually eliminating stress will help the insomnia issue as well. You might think this is impossible since everyone experiences stressors in their life, but I can assure you it is possible because I have accomplished this. Here are the facts. Of course you will experience stressful situations in your life through health challenges, financial issues, relationships, work situations, and many other happenings. In addition there is your diet to consider, structural issues, your beliefs and attitudes, and what you think about constantly. Don't go there! I know what you're thinking - that this is too hard and you'll probably never be able to get well, right? Like I said, don't go there. It is possible to heal with the right and perfect tools because I have accomplished this!

The secret to overcoming stress is in how you respond to the stressors. If you allow them to take over your life and focus on them continually, worrying, becoming anxious or angry, you create an environment for adrenal burnout because these responses are negative. If, on the other hand, you understand that everything that comes your way is there for a reason and has merit in your life, perhaps as a learning tool, then it becomes a positive experience at some point and is not a stressor. Using adrenal and/or thyroid nutrient boosters can be quite beneficial in supporting the restoration of these glands and their hormones. But beware, for many health practitioners recommend animal glandulars or supplements with chemical constituents. You are a high vibrational being. Animals and chemicals resonate at a lower vibration. Therefore, if you consume products from these sources they can never raise you to vibrant health because the vibrations cannot match yours. Doesn't it make sense to put only products into your body that can resonate on the same vibrational level as you, and therefore promote and sustain hormone balance and great health? I have found that the products from PR Labs have this high vibration. Only pure plants are used in synergistic blends, and their hormone supplements are precursors to help your body produce what is needed rather than simply giving the body a supplemental hormone or product. Helping your body produce what it needs is always the best way to go for restoration whenever possible.

The Hormonal Chain

EFA's, commonly known as essential fatty acids, are necessary for the conversion of all steroid hormones. They create the good cholesterol required to begin this process. Without sufficient EFA's your body cannot convert the hormones into functional use. EFA's are found in foods like wild caught cold water fish, raw organic nuts and seeds - almonds, pecans, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, sunflower seeds, flax seeds - organic coconut oil and organic olive oil.

The cholesterol first converts into pregnenolone which is considered to be the King in the hormone chain because it has the ability to essentially convert into all other steroid hormones. It converts into progesterone on one hand and DHEA on the other. The progesterone converts into cortisol and aldosterone while the DHEA converts into androstenedione, which in turn converts into the estrogens ( estrone, estradiol, and estriol) and testosterone.

Sometimes it is advantageous to utilize pregnenolone in a supplemental program, but using a blend can be even better.

Take It Slow

In my previous article on adrenal fatigue I mentioned some suggested supplements and lifestyle changes that have been noted as important for adrenal restoration. Understand that when adrenals are worn out, it is not advantageous to ingest large quantities of supplements. Earlier I referenced the digestion impairment when adrenals are dysfunctional, so taking large quantities of supplements only adds more toxic buildup to your body. Instead, opt for a few high energy supplements that your body can benefit from. Better yet, have a health practitioner test your body with the suggested products through applied kinesiology, or muscle testing. Although not a 100% accurate, it is many times better than simply guessing.

Each of us are individuals, unique in our own way. There are multiple paths to healing, and what works for one may not hold true for the next person. You can read many articles or books on hormone balance and receive various protocols to follow. Listen to your body. Go with what feels right, and have someone test you with kinesiology or similar methods. Do your own research as well and become educated with beneficial information. Many people do not want to take the time to investigate their health issues, but would rather allow someone else to control what goes into their body and tell them what to do. To me, health is a top priority and therefore requires due diligence of my time to keep my body functioning optimally with vibrancy. Although what I've shared in this article has proven good for many people, some of it may not work for you. so go into your healing process with an open mind and willing heart to listen, learn and then act when it feels right.

Other Important Supplements That May Be Beneficial To Use

In my first article on adrenal fatigue, I mentioned a few supplements that seem to be important for most people to implement according to leading health practitioners. They include:

- Magnesium
- Vitamin C
- Extra B5 in addition to the B complex
- Natural progesterone cream
- Vitamin E

All of these supplements appeared on lists from holistic doctors who specialize in the endocrine system and adrenal issues as needed for healing since these support and nourish the glands, particularly the adrenals. Again, go with what works for you, but this is a good starting place. Be sure to include the items mentioned in this article as well.

Sex Hormones

Since it is necessary to address all hormones - thyroid, adrenals and sex hormones - when you seek harmony and healing, we need to talk about the sex hormones. Often this is the place doctors start with treatments, and they frequently prescribe synthetic hormones in an effort to restore balance. Synthetic hormones are NOT like your body in any way, and although they may sometimes seem to reduce or eliminate symptoms, they pose a high risk of creating serious side effects that are capable of even ending your life. Some medical practitioners offer bio-identical hormones as a solution to the unbalance. These may be a better choice and certainly are promoted as closer to what your body produces, but are not always a solution.

What I have discovered over and over again, is the importance of using natural progesterone cream since it not only supports the adrenals and thyroid, but also helps reduce the estrogen overload we are experiencing today. This overload is causing men to have breast growth as well as breast cancer, girls to begin menstruation way too early, many disorders to appear such as endometriosis, along with cancer of the breast, uterus, prostate, and much more. The imbalance of this estrogen overload is contributing to a greater decline of progesterone and testosterone in both women and men.

I believe that most women and probably most men, especially over 50, need to use a natural progesterone cream to help restore the balance between estrogen and progesterone. In addition, most men probably need a boost for their testosterone, and often women do too. The best way to do this I feel is to use a synergistic blend of plants that help your body produce the proper harmonious hormone balance. The most common complaints associated with a sex hormone imbalance at mid-life is weight gain, reduced libido (sex drive), energy reduction, thinning hair, and muscle weakness or pain. Sound familiar? You're right - these same symptoms are found with adrenal fatigue and thyroid imbalance. So can you see how the hormones are so intrically woven together and why addressing all of them is essential when you are seeking harmony and vibrant health?

Exercise

Exercise is vital if you want health and vitality. Exercise allows blood to flow and be oxygenated, releases toxins from the body as you sweat, keeps your joints moving and flexible, strengthens your bones and joints (particularly when using weights), energizes your body, improves your mood, clears the cobwebs out of your brain, and above all, helps you lose those unwanted love handles. But caution! When the adrenals are fatigued, be careful not to overdo exercising. Too much further depletes the adrenals. Rule of thumb - if after exercising you are exhausted you are doing too much. Do less next time so that you feel good afterwards. If you have symptoms of hormonal imbalance, here's another guideline. If you are exhausted after routine exercise, then you probably are experiencing significant adrenal problems. If however you feel energized after exercising, you are probably experiencing more of a thyroid deficiency. It is known that thyroid function is boosted after exercise. Simple walking is usually beneficial for everyone. So get moving! With rare exception, exercise is highly beneficial for everyone! You might try yoga too!

Overview

Much information is now becoming available for this huge problem of adrenal burnout that so many people are experiencing. Some say it affects as much as 80% of our population at varying levels. Sadly, many do not know it is affecting their health. What I can see after years of researching for answers in regard to finding the core of health challenges, is that any illness will have the adrenals involved. In order to effectively create healing, the adrenals will need to be nourished and supported to achieve healing. But I also came to realize that complete healing will never occur without addressing the spiritual, emotional and mental realms. After several years of attempting to heal my body in the physical realm years ago, when I began working on releasing old beliefs about hurt, anger, guilt and shame, I then began healing very rapidly.

In the physical realm, anyone who is stressed needs help with their adrenals. Things like worry; financial problems; eating foods that aren't good for you; no exercise or too much exercise; lack of 5 hours consecutive sleep; too much sugar, alcohol or caffeine (proven to be totally detrimental to adrenal function); chronic infections; toxicity; old beliefs that don't serve your highest good; spinal misalignment; anger; resentment; jealousy - all of these things contribute to adrenal fatigue because they wear down your body. The adrenals are your stress indicator, and if they become worn out, other systems are affected. This creates an unfavorable environment for a healthy body. Refer to the section on adrenal roles if you've forgotten what they do.

So it is a combination of nourishment through supplements and diet, release of old beliefs and programming, reprogramming your thoughts and behavior, repairing the damage and changing your lifestyle that enables your body to really heal. Does this seem like too much to do? Anything worth anything takes time, effort and oftentimes money to implement. In the end, it is more than worth it. You become a stronger and more balanced individual with a whole new outlook on life. Stress is removed and enjoyment replaces it. You feel better, life looks good, your relationships improve, and your heart opens. When you enjoy life, you are living as you are meant to live. And every stressor becomes a gift for you to grow beyond.

I've shared with you in this article what I believe is necessary to heal your body from adrenal fatigue or any hormonal imbalance. Since the endocrine system, home of your primary hormones, runs every system within your body, it only makes sense to pay attention to your hormones. Health advocates might say that toxins are the primary cause of illness. They certainly are a significant factor in any illness, but often toxic overload is due to too much or too little of one or more hormones that create other unfavorable situations within the body. Too much estrogen can cause cell proliferation leading to cancer. Improper digestion due to any imbalance of hormones can lead to toxins pouring into the blood and depositing anywhere in the body. This can lead to weight gain, colon issues and cancer, among other things. Low DHEA affects the immune system allowing for free radicals to take over and create illness. Any stressors that lower the function of the adrenals contribute to the creation of many diseases.

The Great State Fair

HOW TO BECOME AN ANIMATOR :

Well….the end of summer is upon us; soon kids are going back to school. The greatest showing of the change of seasons is the fact that the Minnesota State Fair is in full swing. Time to put on a good pair of walking shoes; put on the sun screen (we never had such a thing when we were growing up).

We printed a map of the fairgrounds off of the computer (back then you just picked one up as you entered the fairgrounds). Then we circled all of the restrooms, a clear sign of getting older.

Of course we had to circle all of the food items that are a must before you can call the day a success. It never ceases to amaze me that people go to the fair and eat the same fried chicken, corn dogs, and other everyday foods, when there is such a wealth of state fair only things to eat. Have you ever had a pork chop on a stick? Please don’t ask me why but the stick makes a different taste. Maybe in the mind only, but definitely different.

Considering I haven’t been to the fair since 1966, what a change had taken place. Some things are and will always be the same. We as a tradition from those days have to start out the day with a real cream puff, made with real cream. To start the day any other way just wouldn’t be right.

We then have to visit the John Deere tractors, because we always did when dad was alive, so we must. None of us live on a farm, but there is a lot to be said for nostalgia.

Down the road a bit is a huge barn full of sheep. For those unaccustomed to the smell, you can smell them a half a block away. That smell to us is like a piece of heaven, wow we went in, loved on all of the sheep and on our way out of the building were hand washing stations! Never before were they there, our country has become so germ conscious that you can’t pet a farm animal without worrying about what ghastly disease you might walk away with. How sad that is.

On to the horse barn, again loving on all of those horses, It seemed as though they were grumpy, well who wouldn’t be, cooped up in those tiny stalls for 10 days straight with millions of people walking by. Again leaving, a hand washing station with big signs hanging “WASH YOUR HANDS” as you are leaving.

OK now we are headed towards the cow barn, the smell is sweet to us as once again we went down memory lane. Those big beautiful brown eyed creatures are sure something to behold. One of them on the way to a judging contest gave us a huge chuckle as she proceeded to do what nature intended, with a barn hand running behind her to catch the natural manure so she wouldn’t dirty herself before the judging. Then as we are watching someone runs up and wipes the tush of this majestic animal with paper towel and baby wipes! I AM NOT LYING!

OK we are leaving and yes you guessed it another hand washing station with the same big signs. I believe half of the fun of getting to see the animals, especially for “city kids” has been robbed by the overly cautious germ fanatics…one little girl didn’t want to pet an animal because she had just washed her hands…how sad.

I have always been one for trying new foods, especially if someone dares me to do it, I am 59 now and that hasn’t changed. The first experiment of the day was elk meatballs, they wouldn’t have been half bad but they poured a nasty tasting sauce over them, I assume to disguise the flavor. Won’t do that again! I sure don’t want my time on earth to have been limited in any way, so the next new taste was deep fried alligator. Hmmmmm….. Not bad, close to chicken, with just a hint of wildness to it. If someone had told me years ago I would be eating alligator, I would have said sure when pigs fly.

OK now we have literally walked as far as humanly possible, without wearing holes in the soles of our shoes. Sadly its time to be heading back to the car and home.

One last stop, and this one wasn’t there in 1966 either…the big bucket of hot gooey chocolate chip cookies made right there on the spot. Absolutely heavenly! Not a bad way to end the day at all.

On the way home none of us have much to say, each of us in our own memory lane thought process. Thinking I am glad we went, but once a year is plenty!

How to Train a Weimaraner

Are you trying to find out how to train a Weimaraner? You've come to the right place!

Striking looks, sleek, speedy, and strong... These are the first impressions a Weimaraner usually gets.

The Weimaraner Vorstehhund, also dubbed as the "grey ghost", is a product of German selective breeding. It was a breed favored by royalty by German royalty. They are strong gun dogs with great perseverance and courage. They will stop at nothing to please their hunting masters.

They are beautiful dogs with a regal stance that most people appreciate. Weimaraners are relatively large dogs with long muscular limbs. Their coats are short and hard but there are rare types with semi-long coats, and they usually come in silvery and gray colors.

Since they have short coats, grooming maintenance is very low but they can drool and bark excessively. Drooling problems may never be solved but with barking, training and extensive early socializing may minimize the unpleasant behavior.

Weimaraners are originally bred to become large game hunters. Animals like boars, deer, and even bears. But with the decline of large game popularity, they eventually adapted to small game hunting. Because of their original hunting inclinations, they are not intimidated with size and seem brave in all occasions.

They are very athletic and thrive in physical activities. Exercise is essential to Weimaraners. Lack of physical and mental stimulation will make them restless and may cause them to become disorderly inside the house. If often left alone, they will channel their energy to destructive behaviors like chewing furniture and footwear. It is also common for them to steal food from tables and counter tops. Bad habits like this need to be eradicated as quickly as possible.

They are affectionate and loving dogs and also very protective of their owners. They have great guarding instincts and they are likely to be very territorial. Weimaraners can be aloof and hostile to strangers. If they are not socialized extensively as puppies they tend to become very aggressive.

When dealing with Weimaraners, owners must be firm and take the role of the "pack leader". Weimaraners can be very stubborn and willful. Therefore, owners must train them with effective positive reinforcement methods to counter these behavioral problems. Passive and meek owners will find it difficult to manage Weimaraners. Natural authority must be established over them.

Weimaraners desires companionship. They like to be with the family's "pack". They will feel awful if left for their own. Weimaraners are generally affable to children but their pure physicality and highly excitable nature can cause accidents, such as knocking children and elderly people down.

They are highly trainable and intelligent dogs. They must be trained extensively with positive reinforcement. Weimaraners like to be praised and rewarded with treats. Positive reinforcement is the best way to control and train them. Calm behavior training is also essential for these dogs. They will eventually mature, although slow, into a mild-mannered temperament.

Weimaraners are common to gastric torsion, a painful and fatal condition. To prevent this, Weimaraners feedings must be spread at least twice daily. But to be sure, because Weimaraners are seriously susceptible to this condition, have a vet's contact number ready.

Why God Prohibited Man to Eat From the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil

Genesis refers to the creation of the universe. God created man, Adam in His own image on the sixth day of Genesis. He took the man to the Garden of Eden, which was full of beautiful trees that bore fruits good for food. God commanded the man, "You are free to eat from any tree in the garden, but you shall not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it you will surely die." He then crested woman, Eve, from the rib of the Adam. The man and the woman were both naked but felt no shame.

However, the devil in the form of a serpent convinced Eve to eat the fruit from the tree of the knowledge by telling her that God knew that when you eat, you would be like God, knowing good and evil.

Then Eve and subsequently Adam ate the fruit from the tree as it was good for food, pleasing to the eye and also desirable for gaining wisdom. Immediately, after they ate the fruit, they realized that they were naked and at once they covered themselves with fig leaves. When they listened to the voice of God, they hid themselves amongst the trees of the garden as they felt shame. God immediately understood that they had eaten from the tree of knowledge of good and evil. Then God got angry, cursed them and banished them from the Garden of Eden. This act of human being is called the "Original Sin" which has been transmitted from generation to generation till today.

Numerous questions arise in our mind regarding the Original Sin. What was the original sin? Was the act of eating the fruit the sin, or the knowledge of good and evil? Or the sin consisted in disobedience of the command of God? Why must the future generations suffer from the displeasure of God and pay for the sins that were committed by their forefather? People have little understood the mystery of the original sin. Finally, can an innocent act like eating a fruit from a tree really be such a major sin?

What was the Original Sin?

The words written in scriptures are often taken literally by scholars and, in the process, people fail to understand the spiritual understanding of the message. If the act of eating the fruit was the sin, then it would be quite unfair that all future generations of man to suffer due to a single act of the original man. God cannot be so unfair as to punish thousands of generations of men for a single act of his ancestors.

Then, what was it that God did not like? If you read the scriptures carefully, you would find several interconnected things that happened on the day of the so-called original sin.

Appreciation of Beauty: God provided the Garden of Eden to man, which was full of beautiful trees that bore fruits good for food.

The Devil's advice: The act of persuasion of serpent to Eve to eat from the tree as by acquiring the knowledge of good and evil, man could become equal to God.

The Sinful Knowledge: The object of the sin was the fruit of the tree of knowledge of good and evil

The Sinful Act: Man distrusted God, his creator and trusted devil and committed the act of eating the fruit, in spite of a clear warning from God, in order to become God himself

The Original Shame: The shame that Adam and Eve felt from each other and also from God as soon as they ate the fruit

Though Genesis mentions all five, yet we fail to co-relate them and understand the true message of God. Nothing has changed today? Even now, the first thing that a child learns in his life is the knowledge of good and evil. Every parent and elders teach the child the difference between good and bad. As he grows, man keeps on learning the knowledge of good and evil in the hope that once he understands it, he would become like God. Religious leaders who believe that they have understood this knowledge are exalted by the people to the level of God. The devils, unbelievers and the atheists, too, consider themselves as God as they believe that they have understood good and evil.

What is wrong with such knowledge? Why God has to be so angry with man with this knowledge?

Definition of Good and Evil:

Even after thousands of years from Genesis, we are no wiser today to understand good and evil. A boy was asked:

"Where is your school?"

"It is opposite my home"

"Where is your home?"

"Opposite my school"

"Where are both?"

Opposite each other.

If you can find out the boy, his school and his home from this description, you can surely understand the meaning of good and evil. What is good? What is evil? People can fill volumes in explaining these terms, yet no one has ever understood these terms properly. In very simple words, we can say, good is something that is not evil and evil is something that is not good. I am sure, you must have clear idea of good and evil by now.

Well, you still don't know? That is what God feared. What He feared was that man after learning the knowledge of good, would divide the world between good or evil. The perception of man about the creation of God, i.e. the world would change forever. Instead of viewing the world as one where everything is complementary to everything else, he would make all His creation as evil on one pretext or the other, just as he made his private parts as evil by covering them to cover their nudity.

What is Evil?

It is extremely difficult to define good or evil. Yet, if we can understand one, we can understand the other. Let us first try to understand evil.

Evil seems to be similar to temptation. Anything that is pleasant to senses and mind so much so that you get attracted to it naturally, is tempting and as such, an evil. The first or the Original Evil was the nudity of the human being that automatically attracts the members of the opposite sex. The most attractive parts of the body are the private parts; hence, the first act that was done by Adam and Eve was to cover their private parts to conceal them as evil. The covering of the private parts is also a symbolic representation of wisdom that evil must be concealed from other people, even from God. If you fail to conceal evil, you must feel ashamed.

As time passed on, the scope of evil spread from the body to almost every thing in the world and every activity of human beings. Everything has to be either good or evil. For example, if your God is good, others' God must be evil. If one worships your God, he is good while people worshiping other Gods are evil. If you praise God, you are good, if you question Him, you are an evil. Love is good, hate is evil. Killing animals is good while killing human beings is evil. Loving your woman is good, while loving other's woman is evil. If you use your property, it is good, if you use other's property, it is evil. Even days were not spared. If you work on a certain days, it is good while, if you work on other days, it is evil.

The differentiation did not stop at this level alone and it grew further and further. For example, killing of human beings is evil if they are one of you i.e. the people of your race, caste, religion, country etc. However, if you kill people of other race, caste, religion or country, it is good. It is the biggest honor and the noblest of acts to kill an enemy.

These differentiations were, however, not fair as the people in power gradually used this knowledge of good and evil to interpret it in such a way that what was to their benefit was good and otherwise was an evil. They did not spare their own people and later declared even women and children as evil if they defied their husbands or parents, so much so that religions termed even sex that creates life, as unholy and evil. The popes, and priests were asked to follow celibacy and shun sex. Some religions even considered music as evil and sin. Thus, over a period of time, all things that provided pleasure to man were termed as evil. Since the opposite of evil was good, hence, you had to choose between being good or being happy.

The havoc of the knowledge of discrimination

The men in power used this knowledge to such an extent that they took all happiness from mankind. They declared every basic instinct created by Nature or God as evil, and the performance of such act as sin. Thus every one became a sinner. People, who crushed their basic instincts, became good but lost all happiness as they did what they didn't like and could not do what they liked. Thus the world became full with people who were sinners and unhappy.

A woman, accused of adultery, was brought before Jesus and the crowd suggested that, as commanded by Moses, the woman must be put to death by stoning. Jesus said that if there was any person amongst them without any sin, let him throw the first stone. Soon all the people were gone as there was none in the crowd, who was without any sin. Then Jesus said to the woman that he did not condemn her and advised here to sin no more.

This incident demonstrates that there is hardly any person in the world who is really free from sin. Every person in the quest of happiness has committed sin sometime or the other in his life. The situation is no different today. If any person honestly introspects, he will find himself to be sinful. A famous mystic poet Kabir said:

I searched for evil in man,

I found evil in none

When I looked into myself

I found the evil within.

What is True Knowledge?

Thus the knowledge of Good and Evil is not desirable for man as God knew that man can never live happily after getting this knowledge. What, then, was the knowledge that he wanted for man? This knowledge is described in other scriptures like Gita where Lord Krishna says (Gita, V-16-18):

The wise man is one whose ignorance is destroyed by the knowledge of Self (Atman or soul). This knowledge like sun reveals the Supreme. His soul has become one with Him, his soul resides in Him, his aim has become the aim of Him and all his sins are wiped out by His true knowledge. This man with self-realization looks with an even eye on a Brahmin (pious man), scholars possessed of learning and humility, a cow, an elephant, a dog and even an untouchable.

This knowledge is not easy to get as it leads you to the soul or essence of knowledge. It has to be realized by self. One has to use intuition and faith to realize it.

In order to realize this knowledge, let us imagine the universe as the body of the Supreme and every entity as a cell of the Universal Body. Now, we know that if there is any problem with any cell of the body, the person feels pain and every other cell suffers. Even the pain of the innermost, invisible and unknown cell of the body is felt by man. Hence, once we see ourselves as parts of the Supreme, everything else in the universe automatically gets integrated to us. At this stage of knowledge, we become one with God and develop the ability to understand Him and his thoughts. This represents the true knowledge.

A body has thousands of organs and billions of cells and all these cells are important for the body. It shall be improper to classify some body parts and cells as superior to others as all the cells and organs play their respective roles for the body. Once a person can understand this simple truth, he will view all the creatures with equal perspective as explained in the Gita. Even if a single cell becomes malicious or cancerous, it can destroy the whole body. Similarly, all functions of the organs of the body are different yet equally essential for the body. Even if a single function like breathing, urination, sweating is stopped, the body cannot survive.

Thus we see the world and its inhabitants in a different light, once we are able to acquire true knowledge. Instead of classifying people as sinners and saints, we are able to appreciate that every person is not meant to perform the same task. We realize that differences have to be appreciated rather than punished.

Lessons from Genesis:

Genesis has long been ridiculed by atheists and scientist as they could only understand words but failed to understand the spirit underlying it. All knowledge is good except the knowledge of good and evil. Man can eat fruits from any tree, which are pleasing to the senses and make the person happy. One, who chooses to know good and evil in this world, follows the devil's advice as on acquisition of this knowledge, he will find the world to be full of sinners. They would feel ashamed of themselves as they would find their most important parts as sinful and evil. Thus the very concept of Evil challenges the wisdom of God because He would never create anything that is not needed. Everything has been created in this world with a purpose. However, this purpose needs not to be only for the benefit of man. There is a purpose for each and every creation of the universe since nothing exists without God or the Supreme.

A world without Evil

It is difficult to imagine a world without evil. Due to our knowledge of good and evil, we often find the whole world as evil since nothing fits into our definition of good. We feel depressed, paranoid and start hating this world instead of loving it. However, this can change, if we realize the true knowledge of the world.

It is said in the Upanishads that "I am the Universe." If you ask a hundred people as to how they find the world, they are all likely to give different answers. For some, the world is beautiful and the people are good, while for some the world may be extremely bad and the people treacherous and sinful. Why the same world is different for different people? Because each man has formed an image of the universe within himself. Therefore, the only way to improve the outside world is to improve the world within. While, we may not have any control over the outside world, we have the option to change our world within and thus change the world outside. The change inside can come only through true knowledge and by unlearning the knowledge of good and evil. Once you make yourself illuminated with this true knowledge, you can get rid of all the sins and the whole world would appear unblemished and good for you. Then only the goal of universal good can be realized. As it is said in the Vedas, "Let everyone become happy, let everyone become healthy."
