How Disneyland Got Started

HOW TO BECOME AN ANIMATOR :

In the early 1940's, children began asking to see where Mickey Mouse and Snow White lived. Walt Disney thought of building a character display beside the studio since he figured that watching people making cartoons was boring. He came up with a vision of a place where children and their parents could have fun together; a "magical park"

To help him in designing the park. Walt Disney looked to his movie studio staff for the answers. They decided there would be five different lands; Main Street U.S.A., Adventureland, Frontierland, Fantasyland, and Tomorrowland. Walt Disney planned out every detail of all these lands.

Disney wanted to recreate the typical turn of the century city in "Main Street USA". It was planned to bring back happy memories or turn back time to the days when our grandfathers were young. It was also intended to be something to beckon visitors to "walk this way" to get to the rest of the park.

Adventureland was planned as an "exotic tropical place" in a "far-off region of the world". It was supposed to be experienced as "far from civilization, in the remote jungles of Asia and Africa."

Frontierland was designed to help visitors relive the pioneer days of the American frontier. Walt Disney envisioned adventures that "give you the feeling of having lived, even for a short while, during our country's pioneer days"

Fantasyland was pictured as a way for classic stories like Peter Pan and Alice in Wonderland to become realities for children of all ages to participate in. There would be a large Sleeping Beauty Castle and a Fantasy Village.

Tomorrowland was pictured as a look at the "marvels of the future". It was designed to give visitors "an opportunity to participate in adventures that are a living blueprint of our future". Walt Disney had trouble working on Tomorrowland, and pointed out that "right when we do Tomorrowland, it will be out dated."

Walt Disney once said "I could never convince the financiers that Disneyland was feasible, because dreams offer too little collateral." He borrowed against his life insurance and sold his second house just to develop his idea adequately. ABC-TV helped with financing by guaranteeing a million loan in exchange for part ownership and Disney's commitment to produce a weekly television show called "Walt Disney's Disneyland" that would offer a glimpse of the future Disneyland; thus bringing the idea into reality for it's viewers.

He needed a place to put Disneyland, as the City of Burbank denied a request to build a site near his studio. In 1953, he recruited the Stanford Research Institute to survey a 100 acre site that was affordable, near Los Angeles, and accessible by freeway. He finally chose a 160 acre site in Anaheim, and the construction of Disneyland was started in 1954.

He looked to his movie studio staff for answers to the inevitable questions like "How do you make believable wild animals that aren't real?"; but if Walt Disney didn't like what his studio designers came up with, he'd do it himself. He stayed close to every detail of the construction and visited the site several times a week. There were several obstacles, such as a river that refused to hold water in the sandy soil and required a bed of native clay, and the staff worked around the clock to get ready for opening day.

Opening day was a disaster, in that the temperatures were 110 degrees, and due to a plumber's strike, no drinking fountains were available. There was a gas leak in Fantasyland. More than 28,000 ticket holders arrived, most of them with counterfeit tickets; where only 6,000 had been expected. There was a 7 mile freeway backup and attractions broke down under the enormous number of guests. Most reviewers decided the park was over-priced and poorly managed, and didn't expect it to last long.

Walt Disney subsequently decided to limit attendance to 20,000 quests per day to avoid overcrowding. Within seven weeks, there were one million visitors, and within 10 years, there had been 50 million visitors to Disneyland. He decided to charge .00 admission (.70 in 2005 dollars) to get through the gate and see three free attractions in four themed lands. Individual tickets for the 18 rides cost 10 to 35 cents each.

Walt Disney once said that "Disneyland will never be completed as long as there is imagination left in the world" and within a year attractions are opening, closing and changing, as they are still doing today.

Disneyland was, and continues to be, an enormous success, and the inspiration for all theme parks that followed it. It took a tremendous vision, unstoppable determination, and careful attention to every detail to create such an unprecedented and exceptional theme park. It is unfortunate that Disney didn't live long enough to see just how successful it was; a fitting legacy for a man whose name is legendary in entertainment.

3D Anatomy Animation - How to Be a 3D Animator?

HOW TO BECOME AN ANIMATOR :

If you are a student of medicine, pharmacy or any related sciences; you will find 3D anatomy animation as the most easy and fun way of learning the details of the human body structure.

With the revolutionary changes in technology learning is no longer restricted to a static text book. The world of animation has helped us to make that leap from static pages to motion and interaction and this is what makes life around us so interesting.

As a medical student or professional you will find it easier to understand the functionality of the different physiological systems that work within our bodies with the help of a human anatomy animation. For example you will be able to grasp the basic to detail concepts of how the human body works with the help of 3d anatomy animation of the cardiac cycle or the eye physiology.

* Who can learn?

Online animations and learning tools are not only for the medical professionals but could also become an interesting career option to people with an artistic bent of mind. If you love sketching and painting or are fascinated with the way animation works you can become a 3D animator. Or maybe you are just curious about this subject and find human anatomy an intriguing subject, you can step into the captivating world of animation.

Before you decide to plunge into the competitive world of animation, you need to know that it is not as easy as it may seem. It is quite a challenge. It is not just learning a couple of good software as most people misconceive. It requires a lot of patience and tremendous hard work.

Many a times most of the aspiring animators get into an totally different segment of the 3D animation world. You must first do some research on the industry and find information on the various sectors of 3D animation. Like if you want to specialize in 3d anatomy animation you will have to have the willingness to get the knowledge on the subject and learn how to the intricate details needed. You must gather the knowledge and the skills to know where exactly you want to get to.

* The primary applications in 3D animation

Key frame animation and motion capture animation are two primary applications used in 3d anatomy animation. Key frame is the oldest style of animation which used the old technique of taking a group of frames and changing the objects in them through spacing or timing. Most of the changes are made to the key frame in this application.

On the other hand motion capture frequently needs clean up from keyframe artists to make it look more realistic, especially if the model that is to be animated does not have any anatomy or proportions like humans. This makes the end result less than perfect.

Continuous learning, right from the basics to mastering the skills are needed for this industry. You have to be patient and willing to keep pace with new developments in technology if you want to make a career in 3D anatomy animation.

Our Environment - The Only One

HOW TO BECOME AN ANIMATOR :

I am fortunate enough to live in a very beautiful part of the country, northwestern Pennsylvania. The changing seasons is a big part of this area's appeal, whether its spring, summer, fall, or winter, they all have their good points. It is as easy to look forward to the first untouched snowfall of winter as it is to the new warmth and burgeoning green buds and sprouts of the coming spring. When you really take the time to think about it, the cycle of life and the ever-changing seasons in our world, are a truly amazing thing. There is always something to look forward to, and to see that you have never noticed before.

How can we take for granted that these things will never cease to be, when our environment is being polluted from so many different sources? Steps are being taken to combat these predators, but have we started soon enough to avoid disasters for our coming generations? I sure hope so, as it would be such a catastrophe should these life-sustaining resources become poisoned to the point of endangering life as we know it. Our upcoming generations deserve to know the beauty and sustenance of the environment that we know. All of this should not be lost in the name of progress, greed, and big business.

When I hear about the rain forests, where certain plants and animals that are found nowhere else, are being destroyed, I find it unconscionable. These areas play such a big part in our overall ecosystem, that I cannot imagine why even big business would want to destroy something so vital to our existence. Obviously our planet was designed for all of the various parts to work together to play an important role in the whole picture. How can they justify destroying even one essential player in that grand scheme? Whether it is the water, the air, or the land, steps need to be taken to preserve these awesome, nonrenewable resources.

Even to think about all of the animals, birds, etc. that live in the world, and how they depend on our natural resources to exist. The beauty and grace of these creatures as you occasionally glimpse one in their natural environment, and to imagine them no longer. As we encroach further and further into their worlds, and pollute or desecrate their habitats in the name of progress, can we be far behind in extinction? We all need to think about our part in doing what we can to help preserve our natural environment and the impact we have on further civilization and what is important to our ongoing existence.

Why You Must Spay or Neuter Your Dog

HOW TO BECOME AN ANIMATOR :

Spaying or Neutering

Each day 10,000 humans are born and each day 70,000 puppies and kittens are born. Naturally this causes great concern; for as long as these birth rates exist there will never be enough people to care for all of the animals. Dogs and cats are born into this world as innocent creatures of God; every year over 6 million animals are killed via the euthanasia process because there are no homes available for them. Animals are dying by the hands of humans every day; they are dying because humans allow dogs to breed when it is not necessary. The most vital step that a person can take to prevent the needless slaughtering of animals is to have their pets spayed or neutered.

The belief that spaying or neutering causes any negative effect for pets is extremely inaccurate. There are important facts about sterilizing a pet that all owners should be aware of:

Animals mate for one reason only: as an instinct to breed; they do not receive pleasure from the act. Mating is purely biological: the female animal goes into estrus (heat) and the male reacts to her pheromones which trigger the instinct to breed. (Mounting or "humping," outside of actual breeding, should not be confused with sex; it is a dominance issue.)

Male animals do not embody the concept of "manhood," although intact male dogs do tend to be more aggressive, high strung, and harder to handle.

The cost for the procedure is relatively inexpensive in relation to the benefits you and your pet will receive. The cost of altering a dog can run from to 0. It may also possible to find a low-cost spay/neuter clinic in your area. A local SPCA should be able give referrals. If a person is on a strict budget, it does not hurt to ask friends or family to pitch in. You may be surprised at how responsive others will be.

For parents who may think that having their dogs give birth to puppies would be a positive experience for their children; it may be wise to double-think: Would it be wise to have children witness the miracle of birth at the sake of having those animals that are do not find homes sent to shelters and then be killed?
Choosing to spay or neuter your pet will bring positive results to you, your pet and the community.

Positive Results for You will be:

Sterilizing will cause your pet to become more affectionate companions

Sterilized pets are far less likely to spray and mark their territory

Spaying a female dog or cat eliminates its heat cycle, thus eliminating the care that must be given during this time. The heat cycle lasts up to 21 days, twice a year for dogs and up to 15 days, two or three times a year for cats. Females often cry incessantly during this time and attract unwanted male animals.

Spayed or neutered pets are less prone to bite. Studies have proven that unaltered animals display more behavioral and temperament problems than those that have been sterilized

Positive Results for Your Pet will be:

Spayed or neutered dogs and cats live longer and healthier lives

Unspayed females have higher incidences of mammary tumors, uterine infections, and cancer

Neutering males reduces the risk of prostate cancer

Neutered animals are far less apt to roam and fight with other animals

Positive Results for Your Community will be:

Communities spend literally millions of dollars to euthanize unwanted animals. Spaying or neutering will decrease the number of animals that do not have homes and will lessen the amount of dogs that are euthanized.

Irresponsible breeding contributes to the problem of dog bites and attacks. Spaying or neutering will make communities safer for all residents

Animal shelters are overburdened with animals, sterilizing pets will reduce this number and efforts can be more focused on saving other neglected and abused animals.

Maintaining Healthy Relationships - 3 Ways

HOW TO BECOME AN ANIMATOR :

Most people, not only you, are insecure about their relationships. It's not just marital or significant other relationships that can be difficult. Maintaining healthy relationships is universally a problematic experience. Those who deny it are either very shallow or completely fooling themselves. The reality of living in this world is that we are not in heaven, and some even say we are in the other place.

What The World Is Really Like

Nope, it's not just you. Even nature in this world is better appreciated from a distance. There is competition and killing at every level of life. Except for human beings, who have free will, the world moves forward with instinctive self preservation violence. Amidst the beauty of nature the cycles of creation, preservation and destruction are continually working themselves out. It is an exciting and beautiful world because and in spite of its ever changing cycles.

It should be stated and recognized that man is capable of either being a part of the cycles and participating in all the violence, or standing above the spectacle. Man is not an animal. We're capable of reasoning things out and behaving in ways that are beneficial to each other and ourselves. We don't live in constant fear of having our possessions taken from us by force. In most cases we really don't even have to think about that. We're capable of creating.

Mankind Is Special

It isn't very important to decide here and now if man has evolved from the bog or is a special creation of God's. Personally I recognize myself and you as God's children with the unique ability of communion with Him (or Her). We are endowed with qualities that allow us to choose our destinies. We can reason, will and act. This conscious ability sets us apart from nature, when we choose. If we fall back on our instincts and fears we are no better than the animals in the jungle that kill or be killed.

Healthy relationships are not predicated on the behavior of two or more people. They are predicated on the behavior and attitudes of the individual who wants one. How you respond to what another person does or says is all that matters to you. If another person treats you well or treats you poorly you still have the full range of options to choose from. It is up to you to determine your own behavior.

Here are three ways to maintain healthy relationships:

1.    Listen - really listen to what was just said to you and ask yourself what was meant. Most people react or respond to something or other that simply came out wrong and the person is too uncomfortable retracting or explaining what they meant.

2.    Think - no matter what was said or how it was said you still have the ability to pretty much ignore it. I like the expression "your screw up doesn't turn into my emergency." We have the ability to feel compassion for someone else's error-caused pain, and we should be quick to use it.

3.    Respond gracefully - when you are able to keep your wits about you the dilemma of another person is something you can relate to and feel for them. Even if they are striking out of habit it does not mean you have to become a victim of their rudeness by striking back.

Healthy Relationships Are Based On Love

No matter what the situation is always look for an opportunity to express love, compassion and support. No matter how someone is treating you always be the best friend they ever had and tell them, "I love you."

The Process of Engineering Design

HOW TO BECOME AN ANIMATOR :

To a large extent we take the technology around us for granted, stopping to notice its value only once it has ceased to function. What we notice even less is the engineering design process, where dedicated engineers, entrepreneurs and inventors work for years to bring a product to market. We take a look at what is involved from concept to commercialization and how engineering designers avoid the ominous 'valley of death'.

It has been suggested that there is a rhizome effect in place when a learning curve spontaneously takes the same trajectory in unconnected parts of the world. This effect has been witnessed in the animal kingdom as well as in technological development in the human species. The trend can be spotted when two or more people who are totally unconnected come up with the same concept at the same time.

This famously happened with the invention of the telephone, which depending on how you view the situation was either thought up by Alexander Bell or Antonio Meucci amongst many others. It seems that the leap in learning happened across the board and many people had a breakthrough moment at the same time. The reason Alexander Bell came out top was because his patent application showed skilled engineering design.

The patenting process is where many new ideas fail. Putting in a patent application requires a complete technical breakdown of the product or idea in a way that describes every aspect of the concept. The engineering design process starts by identifying the need for a product, followed by research about its application and potential benefits. After this the concept is drawn up so it can be realized before being presented to a commercial sector where it can thereby be manufactured and implemented.

This process can take many years, and the competence of the engineering design can be a deciding factor in the progression from concept to manufacture. Many technologies are developed to a point where patents have been filed and prototypes made to demonstrate the potential of the invention or concept. Unfortunately, the leap from a prototype platform to commercial product often requires major modifications to be put into practice.

This is what is known as the 'valley of death', an area where designs have been unable to be modified to become commercially viable. There are literally thousands of patents that are filed globally every year. Some of these have the potential to change the way we live and the way industry functions, but many never have the chance to become used as they cannot bridge the gap between idea and implementation.

Guinea Pig Behaviors - Explanations of Some of the Odd Things Your Pet Guinea Pig Does

HOW TO BECOME AN ANIMATOR :

Many pet owners find guinea pigs to be charming house hold pets, no matter how old the person is. As charming as the little fur-ball may be though, there are a few behaviors that every owner should be aware of, both aggressive and passive, positive and negative. Keep in mind that every animal is different, so these behaviors should be examined on a personal basis and that some have blurry boundaries between being hostile and just plain frisky.

Among most negative actions is the showing of aggression. This is usually shown when the guinea pigs chatter their teeth together, flare the fur around there neck, or show there teeth. Oftentimes, this results from two newly introduced piggies of the same gender, as they try and sort out there position in the hierarchy.

While aggression leads to biting, biting is not always a bad sign. Sometimes it's their way of letting you know something, whether it's that they are hungry or that they need to "take a break." Communication is the main reason for biting, which is most often just a nip or a nibble. Guinea pigs can also get confused though, and mistake your fingers for a tasty carrot or other veggie if you don't wash right after feeding them!

Some guinea pigs are prone to biting the bars of their cage. Most will only do this when they think its snack time or they hear something that makes them think snacks are on the way. They first start weeping, but if the savory yummies are taking too long, they will bite the bars to make sure they are heard. A few guinea pigs may bite the bars because they are bored and they are wanting some attention. If they persist on doing it, try placing a new toy in their cage. If your guinea pig is living on their own they will naturally become bored and lonely, even if you spend a lot of time with them. They really do need a cage mate, so consider keeping two guinea pigs. If your guinea pig is living in a small cage and isn't getting any much needed free range time, they will become stressed and bite the bars out of sheer frustration. A larger cage or an increase in their free range time is a great remedy to this.

One more somewhat aggressive behavior is nose-nudging. Often you will see nose-nudging when guinea pigs are sharing a meal. A more dominant guinea pig will nudge another piggy out of the way, so they can have the piggy's share. Sometimes a submissive guinea pig will also do it if they are feeling bold and really want that last piece of parsley or carrot. If you see one of your pets hogging the food bowl too much, place two bowls in the cage; a more dominant furball can't be in two places at once, so this will allow the more submissive guinea to eat. Nose nudging can also be directed at us humans. When a guinea pig wants you to stop stroking them on their head, they will suddenly lift their head up, in the hope that they can remove your hand. Try stroking them further away, a gentle neck rub is often appreciated or under the chin.

So this explains a little about what your guinea pig is thinking when he or she does some of those odd, but cute little behaviors. For more fantastic guinea pig information, visit the site below.

Put Magic In Your Ad Copy

HOW TO BECOME AN ANIMATOR :

Small things can make the difference between ad copy that sells and copy that drives prospects away. You'll be amazed what a simple donation can do to boost your credibility.

Here are some proven ways you can improve your ad copy and drive customers to your offer.

Show your visitors that they are dealing with a 'real' person, not just a vague collection of streaming data. One quick way to do this is by handwriting some of the content on your page. Of course, you'll want to be neat to make sure they can read it easily.

It's simple to do. Just write a small note on a sheet of white paper, scan it into your computer, and add the image to your site. If you don't have a scanner, you might be able to photograph it with a digital camera and upload it.

The best approach might be to use it at the start of your presentation as your way of saying, "welcome". Be sure it reflects your personality - of being a friendly online business owner greeting your visitors at the door, smile and a handshake at the ready.

A common practice is to include the names of some people who are well-known across the internet. Best if you can get them to give you a brief testimonial you can use. The view is that if these people trust you and buy from you, then it must be okay for your visitors to do likewise.

Just make sure you have permission to use their names. For one thing, they might not want that exposure. This technique has been used for decades in offline marketing, so don't forget this area of promotion, too.

People like to see what they're buying. If you're offering a service, provide before and after shots if possible. If your product repairs damaged furniture, for instance, show the marred surface as well as how it looks after the product was applied. Nothing speaks louder than pictures.

If someone has written a review of you, your site or your product, get their permission to use that material on your site. Always be sure to include any copyright back to the originating author or publisher.

When people see that others have put value in your business, they will be glad to have that inside knowledge. The more you can educate people about you and your business, the more successful your site will be.

Free bonuses will always boost your product's attractiveness. Even if your product is the best it can be, full of vital little-known information that will skyrocket the buyer's business, bonuses will make it that much more desirable.

If you include the prices of all the items with a final total, they'll see they're getting good value for their money. A word of warning, however. Be sure not to exaggerate the dollar value of these products. Doing so can do the exact opposite of your intended goal. If you show five e-books valued at ,800 or more, your offer suddenly becomes unbelievable. So keep your figures logical.

Product endorsement is another popular method that's been used for years to promote products. Find someone who is known to your target audience and ask them if they would write a product endorsement for you. Of course, you'll want a valid endorsement.

If your product doesn't meet the buyer's expectations, you could end up without the sale or a refund. Worse, you could be seen as someone people won't buy from again. The risks aren't worth falsifying product claims.

Since you obviously can't stand at the door of your business and greet your visitors, you can do the next best thing and provide your picture on your site. This will help your visitors to relate to you as a person, rather than just a cyberspace disembodied soul.

You might want to add an inspiring quote that reflects your approach to life and/or business.

Donating to charity has been a great tax break for businesses for many years. Of course, there are more benefits. It makes them appear community-minded and willing to share the wealth, rather than feed off the customers. Use this to your advantage.

Offer to donate a percentage of their purchases to a specific charity. Make sure it's one that people will relate to or have some compassion for.

If you're running a dog accessories site, the perfect charity might be the local humane society or animal rescue unit. This will earn you respect in their eyes. The idea of seeing their money going to a worthwhile cause will help spur them to buy from you.

Follow through with this concept by letting your visitors know how much you've donated over a certain period, thanks to their help and support. This will confirm that their money in fact has been donated as you specified.

Such attention to detail will also increase their trust in you. You will be seen as honest and up front, and a person who doesn't just take the money and move on. Letting them know you'll be posting the results over time will encourage them to come back again and again for the latest update.

One final idea that has caught on recently is to invite your prospects to find certain words in your ad copy to receive a free prize. Misspell certain words, spell words backwards, or add nonsense words in your sales page for them to find.

Apart from getting them to read your ad copy, you make your site fun and rewarding for your visitors.

There are many creative ways to turn a bland sales page into a magical money machine. Next time you're on the internet, take a closer more scrupulous look at other websites. You're sure to pick up more ideas.

33 Ways to Get and Keep Yourself Motivated

HOW TO BECOME AN ANIMATOR :

1. Ignore The Unimportant

Learning to ignore is a fantastic lesson. Much more rewarding that you think. There must be an art of ignoring and they should teach it in universities. Spanning your focus in so many areas will only weaken you. Ignoring what's unimportant will free up energy and help you stay focused and productive.

2. Understand What Makes You Bored

And avoid it. Boredom is a nasty place to be. But as any other state of your being can be understood and you can identify the triggers. Once you understand that, you can safely go away from the gray zone. Takes some time but it really worth the effort.

3. Laugh More Often

Watch comedies, read comics. Throw away that ugly seriousness form your face. Laughing is a safety valve for your stress relief mechanism. It actually let it out from your body in bursts. And while you're laughing you can still learn new stuff, like personal development lessons from Dumbo.

4. Keep A Log Of Your Breakthroughs

Do you remember when you had the first major success of your life? I thought so. We tend to overlook this simple habit of writing down our feelings every time we have a major breakthrough in our lives. Keep a log of your successes. And get inspired by it.

5. Exercise

This is one the easiest and simplest way to get motivated. Just walk out from the office, start doing some pushups or just go for a short run around the house. It will instantly declutter your physical body. Every time you exercise, you produce endorphins. Endorphins are good.

6. Create A Custom Environment

You can't be motivated if you work in an environment which does not represent you. Make changes, adjust, improve. Doesn't matter if it's about your job office or your home. Whatever the space you work in, make it yours somehow, that will lower your unconscious adaptation efforts and you'll have more time dedicated to the actual tasks.

7. Read Success Stories

Like in other people success stories. Get inspired. Admire them (with caution, but do admire them). Reading about success will make it more available to you and will fuel your efforts towards its achievement. And of course, you can learn how to be successful too.

8. Switch Tasks

You will get bored if you work on the same projects for too long. Boredom kills motivation. Try having several small projects that you can land on whenever you feel you're on the verge of a burn out. Not to mention that switching tasks will instantly create fresh perspectives, helping you solve problems faster.

9. Assess Your Progress

If you work constantly you will make some progress, that's a rule. You may have the impression that you're not going anywhere but that's because you're skipping all those little milestones you go through every day. Watching back with satisfaction at what you created will surely boost your energy.

10. Talk About Your Projects

With your friends or family. Let the people know you're doing stuff. That will often make yourself aware of the fact that you're actually doing stuff and enjoy doing it. It will also create a certain level of accountability that will most likely push you forward.

11. Avoid Energy Vampires

Naysayers, pessimists, braggers they all are sucking up your energy. Don't get caught in such power games, avoid at all costs those energy leaks. Even if that means you'll isolate more often. It's better to do work in your own secluded realm than to try to resist to a diminisihing environment.

12. Write Clear Goals

Most of the time that translates to actually write down your goals, you already have them clear in your mind. But take them out of your mind, put them in a trusted system and move on. Your mind works better when it knows what it has to do not when it spends time figuring what it has to do.

13. Exercise Satisfaction

Once you finished some task, reward yourself. Give yourself a prize. No need to be a huge one, but just enough to create the habit. Look forward to it while you're working, wait for it, praise for it. In time you'll become addicted to this fulfillment satisfaction and you won't stop until you reach it.

14. Accept Failure

As part of the game. Failure, like success, is just a result of your actions, nothing more. One of the biggest motivation enemies is fear of failure. Fear that your outcome will turn bad. Accept it. It may turn bad, but that doesn't mean you have to stop doing what you're doing. Give your best and hope for the best.

15. Use Affirmations

Like writing down your intentions, your goals, your current status. Affirmations are a very powerful tool, hugely underrated. People find it awkward to write self-directed messages and read them out loud. News flash: you're doing this all the time, unconsciously. So why not doing it consciously? Start with a morning phrase.

16. Play Games

Impersonate people. Imitate animals. Pretend you're Sindbad the Sailor. Playing challenging games will relax your mind and at the same time will gather more resources from secret sources. A good motivation is always blended with joy. You can start with a simple game like how to get from a to b in 5 random steps.

17. Say "No"

Say "no" to distractions, to trolls, to depression. Exercising "no"'s is liberating. Too often too many commitments are making your life a continuous chore. Limit your promises and only get into things you really want to finish. Once you do that, go to a mirror, smile and start to politely exercise your "no"'s.

18. Look For Positive People

Sadness, whining and complaining doesn't play well with motivation. On the contrary. But positive, optimistic, energetic people will always shift your vibration in the right direction. Search them, find them and become their friend. Sometimes all you need to get motivated is to be surrounded by shiny happy people.

19. Difficulty Is Part Of The Game

Learn to work under pressure. Some things are more difficult than other. Accept that fact and focus on doing what you have to do not on your feelings of dissatisfaction. Difficulty is often what makes things worth doing. No sweat, no glory. Whenever I feel something is going to be tough, I'm usually more motivated to do it. The reward will be higher.

20. Create Personal Challenges

Personal challenges are short term goals, usually from 15 to 90 days. Like starting to exercise, or creating a habit from scratch in 15 days. Using personal challenges strengthen your inner power the same way exercising is strengthening your muscles. The more you do, the more motivated you feel to do even more.

21. Chose Positive Motivation

Whenever you lock in your motivation, do your best to keep it on the positive side, which is rooted in service. As opposed to the negative motivation, which is basically rooted in fear. Negative motivation works just the same, only it lasts significantly less than positive motivation.

22. Release Your Guardians

You do have guardians and some of them are pretty nasty. They won't let you do your stuff. The bad thing about your guardians is that most of the time they're working at the unconscious level, really difficult to interact with. Just accept, acknowledge and let them go. You will be much better off.

23. Enforce Your Personal Mission

You gotta have a personal mission. If you don't, go find one fast. Reinforcing your personal mission at certain intervals is surely one of the greatest motivators of all. It's like looking on a map and seeing at any moment where you are, how much do you have to go and which path you have to chose.

24. Spend Time Outside

If you can do something creative, like gardening or landscaping, even better. But it's ok even if you don't. Spending time outside of your box will clear the air inside. When you get back, everything will be fresher and shinier. And something fresher is always a nice motivator.

25. Keep A Clean Inbox

That's one of the few GTD concepts I still use and it proves to be a great motivator. A clean inbox helps a smooth thoughts flow. A smooth thoughts flow let me be in the moment without any hidden burdens. Being in the moment is usually all I need to actually start doing things.

26. Don't Aim For Perfection

It will soon drain you out. Aiming to be better is the real game. Perfection is a dead end, nothing really happens after you reached to it. Accepting that you can be better instead of perfect leaves some room for growth. And that means you have a reason to do more. And that's what we usually call motivation, right?

27. Do One Thing At A Time

Multitasking is a myth. Even computers processors aren't really doing multi-tasking, that's what we perceive. Instead they have a single frequency and several parallel buses managing information, faking a multi-tasking activity. Multitasking is creating internal conflicts, both in humans and in computers. You end up spending more time solving those conflicts than actually working.

28. Keep A Source Of Inspiring Readings

You're not always completely down, most of the time you're just averagish, just one sentence away from your best shape. Be sure to keep around a list of inspiring readings. Quotes, blog posts, ebooks, whatever works for you. You can start with 100 ways to live a better life, for instance.

29. Put On Some Good Music

Just let it there, floating around, don't turn the volume knob. Just enough to recreate a pleasant atmosphere. Music speaks to areas you can't control with logical tools, yet is so powerful that can completely shift your mood in a second. The only thing better than silence is good music.

30. Don't Fall Into The Productivity Trap

It's not how much you do, but how much of it really matters. Doing stuff just for filling up notebooks with tasks won't make you feel motivated. On the other side, whenever you're doing something that matters, your planing and organizing activities will just flow.

31. Keep Your Life Lenses Clean

Your camera objective may be blurred but you don't know. This is why you get the same picture again and again, this is why feel stuck and can't seem to see any progress. Sometimes all you have to do is to clean up your lenses. It takes a little bit of courage but it's worth the trouble.

32. Clean Up Your House

I know you need motivation for that too, but believe me, it's a fantastic way to clean up your internal garbage. Cleaning up your house is not a chore, it's a necessity. Your action paths may be clogged the same way your floor is sticky. And most of the time unsticking the floor will open your mind again.

33. Stop Reading This And Get To Work

It was fun reading it, I'm sure. But it won't get things done in your place. Inspiration is a good motivator, but don't abuse it. Now, that you are all energized, it's time for you to get back to work. Of course, you can bookmark this post for future motivation sessions, but for now, just go back to work.

ADHD in Children - Parental Patience is Key

HOW TO BECOME AN ANIMATOR :

Parental Patience is the key to disciplining children with ADHD but picking your battles, and maintaining perspective of what rules are truly important as well as a few other practical disciplining strategies can help you make the best of often volatile, ADHD, child rearing situations.

Children with ADHD can be developmentally immature and are often trying their best. Coexisting conditions such as language processing problems, distractibility problems and Oppositional Defiance Disorder issues can contribute greatly to the behavioral problems that exist in these children. Trying to discipline highly distractible children with a combination of communication and impulse control issues can be challenging. Remembering the ADHD child's limitations will allow you to better see behavioral challenges from the child's point of view and will help you avoid common pitfalls to effective parenting such as miscommunication, unrealistic expectations, and angry child/parent interactions.

It is very important that parents of children with ADHD pick their battles carefully. Not all rules are of equal importance. Parents must not discipline children for rules that, in the 'big picture' of life, are simply not that important. Parents must also remember that most children do not set out to make their parent's lives miserable. Most children would stay out of trouble if they could. Picking your battles is practical advice no matter what you are attempting to do but when parenting children with ADHD there is plenty to concern yourself with without wasting your disciplining energy on matters that are not important. If your family always eats at the Chinese restaurant after church and your ADHD child hates Chinese food. Do not insist that he find something to eat there. Pack him a sandwich to eat and let it go. Disciplining in an exceedingly strict manner will seldom work well with these children. Your child may not be able to articulate what the Chinese food problem is but respect their preference, do not hold a grudge, let it go, and move on.

Clear Communication is imperative to an effective discipline strategy. Children with ADHD must be told:

What the house rules are.
What is expected of them.
What the consequences are of unacceptable behavior.
What anger outlets are acceptable.

House rules should be spelled out on a behavior chart or in another clearly stated manner. Children must be told what is expected of them beforehand. Expectations should be age appropriate and realistic given the child's maturity level. Children with ADHD can lag in maturity by 30% percent when compared to non-ADHD children. Parents should take this into account when explaining to children, with ADHD, the behavior that is expected of them.

Certain children with ADHD have a tendency to explode. They can quickly become angry and violent. These children need to be told what is acceptable behavior when they are angry and what is not. At my house it is acceptable for my children to go to their bedrooms and hit the wall with their pillows, it is acceptable to throw their stuffed animals against their bedroom walls or on their bed, it is acceptable to punch their bed mattress, it is acceptable to go outside and bang a stick against the sidewalk, it is acceptable to run around the block providing they tell me where they are going, etc.

Children need to have an acceptable outlet for their anger and they need to be congratulated when they choose an acceptable anger strategy. Children who demonstrate their anger in an unacceptable manner must be told in advance how they will be disciplined for losing their temper and the discipline should be applied consistently and promptly when they fail to utilize an acceptable anger outlet strategy.

Situations where the child may find it difficult to control their behavior require special preparation. The parent should anticipate potential problems that might arise beforehand and discuss these with the child. An example would be this; your ADHD child is going with you to an elderly neighbor's house to visit. This neighbors house in not child friendly and there is nothing there for a child to do. You will need to tell the child that the house is not child friendly and that you are going to bring an acceptable toy for the child to play with, the child will need to be reminded to be quiet, polite, and to socially engage the neighbor for an age appropriate amount of time. You can tell the child that after 'X' number of minutes it will be OK to bring out the toy and play quietly until you are finished with the visit. It should be clearly spelled out in advance what is not OK behavior and what the consequences are for misbehaving.

Rewarding positive behavior, as quickly and consistently, as punishing unacceptable behavior will go a long way to keeping your children well behaved. Positive reinforcement tools such as awarding chips or points for good behavior, which can later be used for privileges, often motivates children with ADHD to be on their best behavior.

At my house, my kids get 10 minutes added to their screen time when they are caught behaving well. They lose 10 minutes of screen time if they break a house rule or misbehave. Larger behavioral successes may get them an extra hour of screen time, or a trip to the movies, while larger behavioral violations will make them lose an hour of screen time or may cost them the loss of a play date.

Maintaining a quiet, good humored, patient, calm, and respectful parental manner when ADHD children are misbehaving is an art worth mastering. It is important that children with ADHD know that their caretakers will be calm and consistent in their discipline and will:

Communicate clearly what is expected of them.
Respond fairly and immediately when discipline is necessary.
Be consistent in their expectations.
Listen to them actively and respectfully, and
Be empathetic to the problems that they are experiencing.

Children with ADHD often do not hear things that a parent says the way the parent intended. Parents must communicate in a clear, respectful, non-sarcastic and unambiguous way what is expected of these children. Do not say; "Who were you expecting to pick up your dirty socks?" A better statement would be: "Please pick up your dirty clothes and put them in the laundry hamper."

The punishment you give your ADHD child should fit the violation and should be immediate. Grounding a child for a week on Friday for not taking out the recycling on Tuesday is too much discipline too late. A more appropriate discipline response might be a loss of screen time or other prized privilege on the day of the infraction.

Children with ADHD need to know that the house rules apply no matter what. Children with ADHD are less successful at interpreting the house rules when the rules change with different circumstances. If it is not OK to play ball in the house on most days, it should not be OK because your neighbor's young children are over and they are allowed to do this at their house. Rules must be consistently applied in order to maximize compliance.

There are always two sides of a discipline issue. Truly listening to what your ADHD child reports regarding their inability to behave as expected is an important component of parenting in a fair and empathetic manner. If the child has a truly reasonable excuse for the failure to follow through with the expected behavior, discuss with empathy how to avoid this pitfall in the future and discipline accordingly. A child who broke a sibling's toy while trying to stuff it into the sibling's toy box so that that the toy would not get lost, needs to be thanked for trying to do something 'nice' but still needs to be told that they are expected to help repair the toy because the toy is now broken. Listening to and trying to understand the difficulties that your ADHD child is having is important to maintaining a respectful and loving relationship with your child. This approach will also teach your child to have empathy for other people's problems.

Parental patience is the key to parenting children with ADHD. A few other practical disciplining strategies such as communicating clearly what is expected, consistently and promptly administering discipline for unacceptable behavior, maintaining a 'big picture' perspective; listening to and displaying empathy regarding the circumstances of the misbehavior, giving the child a safe outlet for displaying heightened emotions, and relying more on positive reinforcement rather than on punishment when disciplining can help you make the best of often volatile, ADHD, child rearing situations.

BYOB Means Bring Your Own Shopping Bags and Help Our Planet in 2010

HOW TO BECOME AN ANIMATOR :

BYOB stands for bring your own shopping bag! As we kick off the new year of 2010,, it is crazy how much shopping we historically do here in America and world-wide and the trends are increasing. Whether it be frequent trips to the grocery store as we keep our kitchen's stocked for wonderful meals and tasty treats or those sometimes dreaded, yet skillful "6 bags on each arm" walks through the packed local mall, it all adds up to so much unnecessary waste. One of the most blatant examples of this waste is disposable shopping bags.

An estimated 100 billion plastic shopping bags are consumed each year in the USA, according to the Wall-Street Journal. Most plastic bags end up in landfills and the rest often end up in rivers, ponds, lakes, streams or in the sea, where animals can ingest or become entangled in them. Household waste, shopping bags included, increases by more than 25% on average in November and December. Considering how many shopping bags are consumed and wasted at this time of year, the time is now to spread the word about the positive benefits of eco-friendly reusable shopping bags to influence our families, friends and communities.

Adopting a BYOB strategy in our individual shopping habits is a simple way to do just that. If we can raise awareness at this time, the positive impact for the environment is incalculable for 2010 and well into the future. Several cities have already made gradual but significant progress in promoting the use of eco-friendly non woven reusable grocery bags in recent years. Motivating consumers with plastic and paper bag bans, discounts at the register for reusable bag usage and tax motivations are a few to speak of.

Right here in America, the San Jose City Council recently passed one of the nation's strictest bans on plastic and paper shopping bags. This is a big victory for the Bay Area, which has one million plastic bags per year accumulating in and along the San Francisco Bay. San Jose becomes the latest bay area city to enact some type of ban on disposable shopping bags; others include San Francisco and Palo Alto. Tracy Seipel of the San Jose Mercury News reported that it was actually ONE man who really jump-started the ban, another great example of the power of one person. Here's a an excerpt:

While visiting his sister-in-law in Taipei, Kansen Chu, elected to San Jose city council in 2007, went grocery shopping and was surprised to get charged for plastic grocery bags. The next day, he brought his own cloth bags back to the store. "I guess the question," said Chu, "was, Why not San Jose?" He began a conversation with the city's environmental services staff, which later moved to council committee discussions.

Save the Bay's 4th annual report on the most garbage-strewn sites in the region further demonstrates the need for bringing your own shopping bags. The 50-year-old environmental advocacy group focused on 10 specific bay-area sites where almost 15,000 plastic bags were retrieved in one day last year in their report. Here's an excerpt of an article in the San Francisco Chronicle by Kelly Zito.

According to (Save the Bay's) research, Californians use about 19 billion plastic bags each year, 3.8 million in the Bay Area. The average use time for the bags - made using about 12 million barrels of oil each year in the United States - is about 12 minutes. In addition to the hundreds of years it can take for a plastic bag to decompose in a landfill, the bags also force downtime when fed into traditional recycling equipment. Typically, the bags get wound into conveyor belts or gears and must be cut out by hand.

Ten US cities have banned plastic bags so far, five within the past year. Even Mexico City enacted a ban on plastic shopping bags, which went into effect in August. The city of 20 million now faces the realities of effective enforcement, which is not easy when the Mexico City Chamber of Commerce estimates there are 35,000 vendors in Mexico City's downtown area alone.

Bans on plastic bags aren't the only effective way to reduce harmful waste caused by disposable bags. PlasTaxes, which tax consumers at the register for using plastic bags when shopping, were first introduced by the Irish. John Roach of National Geographic reported last year on the worldwide momentum that's been building since Ireland instituted a PlasTax in 2003. The Irish showed they could reduce plastic bag consumption by 90% or more. Momentum is growing across the world, particularly in America. From Washington, DC to Edmonds, WA to North Pole, AK, communities and governments are spurring an international trend to reduce the harmful environmental effects of disposable shopping bags. Even major retail stores like Target and CVS are taking action by enacting discounts at the register for customers who choose to BYOB or just carry-out their items without a bag.

For the naysayers, it's convenient to ignore recent momentum in reducing disposable bag waste. But to some, the wide-spread adoption of eco-friendly reusable bags is inevitable. Look at the way smoking is becoming taboo in America. Indoor smoking bans have caught on like wild fire. In the same way, who is to say the use of disposable bags won't become taboo at some point in the near future? The use of eco friendly reusable grocery bags is definitely gaining steam. Our individual choices to bring our reusable bags when shopping can go a lot farther than we think. That's what BYOB is all about, setting a proactive example for others to set a trend that will help our planet, it's valuable finite resources and secure its animals' habitats.

Of course, plastic and paper bags should be recycled and it's important to remember most large retailers including Albertsons and Walmart will recycle plastic bags for you. That being said, a BYOB shopping strategy can make your life so much easier because there is no longer a need to accumulate that cupboard full of plastic bags or figure out what and when to do something about it. Keeping a few reusable shopping bags in your car or backpack is a good way to ensure you have them when needed. So give back to our planet by remembering to BYOB! Whether it be at a convenience store, the mall, or while grocery shopping, we can make a difference for the environment and help raise awareness one transaction at a time. Through the fight to eliminate disposable shopping bag waste, we are giving a gift to our Planet, the finest gift of all, sustainability and reusage.

Aspergillosis, You, and Your Birds

HOW TO BECOME AN ANIMATOR :

Are You At Risk?

Aspergillosis is a general lung infection that develops from a fungus found in compost piles or other areas where bird waste has collected. There are several signs of you should watch out for like wheezing and coughing, as well as coughing up phlegm and an inability to breathe. You could also feel disoriented or confused or suddenly have a high fever.

With your pet birds, there is little chance of getting Aspergillosis as long as you keep the cage clean, but if you have larger birds or if you have a large garden that attracts a large bird population, there is a chance that you could see an outbreak of Aspergillosis.

How to Avoid Aspergillosis

The best way to avoid contracting Aspergillosis is always to make sure to have a clean and tidy garden. This is both for the humans as well as for the birds. You want to be sure that your animals are living in quarters that can be easily cleaned, and that are cleaned often, and you have to be sure that you dispose of the waste in a way that is not dangerous. It does no good to clean out the bird waste if it is still going to be left somewhere that humans might come in contact with it and become sick.

Be sure to see a doctor right away if you develop some of the symptoms of Aspergillosis and have been exposed to compost piles or bird waste recently. Don't forget to mention this possibility as it may not be the first option that comes to your physician's mind. Since there are various stages to the illness, and the sooner you catch it the better you are going to be.

Keep Clean

One of the best way to keep your yard and garden in good shape is to regularly check under bird feeders for lots of bird waste. If you see it, put on a paper mask (the kind used when sanding or using a strong cleaner), wear gloves and shovel the waste into a plastic bag for removal.

Working ON Your Business

HOW TO BECOME AN ANIMATOR :

I've noticed that to the degree that I've taken my own coaching in the area outlined below, the more my own business on purpose has flourished.

So, here's my question to you:

Are you working ON your business or only IN it?

Do you want to know one of the major 'blind spots' that I find prevent so many health care professionals from reaching their business goals and is a significant contributor to professional burnout?

It's the failure to carve out the time to work on your business. It's really easy to understand how this happens. Most health care professionals didn't enter their profession to become business owners. What guided them to their chosen profession was a desire and passion to make a difference by helping people in some way, whether it was helping them by taking care of their animals as with veterinarians, or by helping them with their own health as with dentists, physicians, and chiropractors, or by helping people reach their life goals as with coaches.

We all seem to have this common blind spot because we mostly just want to help people in our chosen way. Being a practice/business owner simply comes with the territory, so we often get caught up in vetting, doctoring, coaching, etc. and fail to realize that to make the biggest difference with the most people and to reap the financial rewards that come with that, we have to devote a fair amount of time to working on our business as well.

What Does It Mean To Work 'On My Business?'

While there are many ways to answering that question, one of the simplest ways is by looking at what a business is. It'll take us a long way to helping us understand when we're working ON the business and when we're working IN the business.

To paraphrase Michael Gerber, business guru of 'The E-Myth' fame, a business is a set of systems and structures that allow us to deliver on our chosen work, be it health care, or baking and selling bread, or manufacturing widgets. If that's the case, then working ON our business means we're working on the systems and structures that allow us to deliver our product and/or service. This often includes creating those structures and systems as well as polishing and perfecting them.

What Are Ways To Work On My Business?

Another great question. I'm so glad you asked it. Here are just a few ways to be at work on your business:

1 - Regular Staff Meetings: Particularly staff meetings where you are training your staff to deliver on your products and services, because your staff is one of the major and most important systems that make it possible for you to deliver on the goods.

2 - Identifying where a system or structure is missing and then designing one to fill the void. For example, can you imagine running a professional practice without having a reminder system to alert your clients when it's time for them to return for routine care? Well, that's a system that someone recognized a need for and designed. This is a great place where your staff can make a major contribution if you'll take the time to listen because they are on the frontlines and know when and where a system is missing. In fact, they are often the best ones to design a system that will really work.

3 - Perfecting and polishing an existing system. Systems wear out or outlive their usefulness, so often times you need to address how to improve and/or replace a system or structure that is no longer getting its job done. Again, this is a great place to call upon the assistance of the people involved with those particular systems.

4 - Working on the Big Picture. Envisioning, goal setting, and strategic planning are all vitally important aspects of working on your business, and is probably one of the most common places that health care professionals miss the boat. In many of my presentations to the veterinary profession I ask how many practice owners have a clearly written vision statement. The hands that go up are rarely more than
5 -10 %. When I ask of those with their hands up how many of them could tell me verbatim what their vision statement is, almost all the hands go down. And I can't remember the last time I met someone who said that if I asked any of their staff members what their vision statement was, they'd be able to tell me.

Yet, a vision statement is a critical piece of your business because it tells you and the rest of the world who you are as a business and what you're up to in the world. Big...big...blind spot.

And this leads to my last point, which is in a way a confession. Although I consider myself an excellent coach, and have plenty of testimonials from satisfied clients to verify that assessment, I feel one of the strongest reasons for you as a health care professional to work with a coach...any coach...is because the coaching relationship will 'force' you to spend at least some time working ON your business. And without that structure in place the truth of the matter is most of you simply won't get around to it. And it's this blind spot that is costing you BIG TIME, in revenue lost, in satisfaction and fulfillment missing, and in it eventually leading to your burning out in your profession.

How to Become Smart

HOW TO BECOME AN ANIMATOR :

A lot of people want to know how to become smart, but don't ever really look. They assume that this is something you're just born with. Well, I'm going to let you in on a little secret. You're wrong. People aren't born with the knowledge of nuclear physics or chemistry, it's something they learn. I think what this can show is that you're not born a genius, you're just born with the natural methods of learning. That's what it all boils down to. Most of us don't know how to learn to our full potential, while these geniuses have known all their life. I'm going to show you how to become smart.

Here's the deal: You don't know how to properly focus on what you're learning. The key to learning is turning your attention into a laser beam that is focused on the subject in front of you. For some odd reason, people think they always have to be multitasking. They're on the computer researching information, but they're sending off emails and eating at the same time. This isn't focus, this is lack of it. You're dividing your attention around, you're lucky if you can retain even half of what you take in. Cut out all distractions and don't multi task. Stick with one thing at a time.

If you want to know how to become smart, take advantage of your natural skills. If you're a person that learns with their hands, put down the textbook and start working with your hands. Stop wasting your time trying to learn things the conventional way. Do it in the way that you learn the best.
